I was playing VS while this was happening. It is honestly amazing how TR makes the exact wrong calls on things to do so consistently.

The point of a defense is to hold an important territory and/or force them to tie up more resources than you in the battle. They did the exact opposite on both accounts.

This is a first phase. The eventual intent is to transition to a PS1-style system where resources "flow" down the lattice lanes and you actually have to protect your connection to the warpgate, and possibly where you can/have to supply them.

I think the idea is that they can make bases more defensible if a protracted siege of the base will eventually run its defenders dry. You know, like PS1. This will theoretically lead to longer fights, which would be desirable over a bunch of ghostcap zergs.

But, :soe:

-one resource to track
-resources are spent when you use the item/vehicle
-current plan is to go from zero to full in 10 minutes
-eventually, bases will actually matter and resources from a base will be a limiting factor
-we'll eventually get ANTs as attachments to Sunderers (probably) to refill nanites at bases, allowing you to have a clutch rear end convoy that saves the day.

Read all the SOE responses in the roadmap thread, they go into further detail what the plan is.

The benefits is to avoid what happens now. You get an ESF, die, get a Tank, die, get a MAX, die, rinse repeat.

The idea behind it (and don't quote me on this) is to make everything you purchase matter more, from infantry consumables to having to choose between flying or tanking. Right now resources don't matter for poo poo, but with the resource system eventually you'd have ANTs running to resource nodes and having to resupply bases adding much needed logistics to what is otherwise, a pretty good video war game.

TOTALI-TERRAN TUESDAY OPS was fantastic guys, thanks everybody who showed up. A little hectic at first trying to get everybody in and organized (ended up having 3 full squads for awhile!) but after that we held a crazy amount of sway among other TR forces who were, to put it mildly, a bit less than drat helpful most of the time.

Was really great seeing all manner of goons come together and rage at the moronic TR and their baffling inability to capitalize on their own arsenal. No, we really aren't exaggerating when we talk about guns like the TORQ, SABR, Jaguar, CARV, and Armistice. They really ARE that good.

I was glad to see this happen early, because I felt it was important that you guys got to see a classic example of the people we are fighting alongside and what we can expect from them in future ops aka we cannot expect anything of them. While we were securing Ixtab and surrounding territories (including multiple even pop defeats of DA+co) we lost our Prowlers because the TR couldn't defend Chac with 60% of the pop in the hex and it being lightly attacked in any case. Once that fell, Hossin TR pop dropped to 25% and we couldn't defend ANYWHERE.

Nor was I, but with more perspective certs have a very real diminishing return aspect. If I could give 80% of the certs I earn to new GOONs I would in a heartbeat because frankly they're useless to me. I've got 9,900 on WEARY and with the resource overhaul I'm set to get 9,500 more in refunds and I'm already stretched for things to spend them on.

Or if at BR100 you had the option to earn half certs, but that reduced amount of certs would become available to your alts as well

Am I the only one who thinks the proposed ANT system of "ANT is an upgrade on Sunderers and Harrassers" is bad? Unless every ANT vehicle is auto-spotted on the map and has huge flashing lights they're going to be frequently ignored because they're well behind the front lines.

I mean, I guess it'll give liberators something to do behind enemy lines but ... it seems like a dedicated vehicle that everyone knows is a high priority target would be a better way to handle it.

I don't get what the gently caress people loved so much about ANT's. Sure it was sometimes fun to air drop an ANT into a hotly contested base, but it was just busywork otherwise and we don't have loadstars to drop in Ants.

I'm sure there's better ways to do it than just forcing people to play Euro Truck Simulator to top off bases.

I'm pretty sure they've mentioned two things that change this from the ANTs of old (Gathering energy in a nice safe WG).

1- You get resources from semi random map locations that will presumably be shown to everyone.
2- The "ANT" module will be visual, unsure if it will show current capacity.

So basically I expect it to play out more like a feeding frenzy with a bit of LLU gameplay mixed in. Rather than trucking from WG, you will be hunting for resources and attempting to get back somewhere safely.

I hope this plays out like snowman hunting, I loved driving around esamir solo in a harasser getting in fights with random NC and TR who were doing the same thing. It was a good way to spread people out and encourage small random clashes in places where most players would never go.

ANTs in PS1 were poo poo and yeah, it was just busywork for bad players who'd rather get their certs doing something other than being in combat. But for this iteration, ANTs will supposedly be fueled at certain areas on the map and not the warpgates. The areas you fuel them at will apparently also correspond with the potency of the nanites. Fueling them at more central locations will, I guess, involve purestrain 100% organic nanites and thus be a bigger recharge for territories but would be harder to accomplish.

Furthermore, any base connected to the warpgate by the lattice is intended to have passive power regen sufficient to be worth something like 2 squads worth of dudes. So nobody will have to refuel bases where nothing's going on. Refueling bases will only need to be done during big fights where some combination of a lot of people over a long period time are fighting.

In PS1 the ANT/power system was there to compensate for the awful base design that resulted in multi-hour slogs to cap certain bases in some situations. The PS2 ANT/power system is being designed to give more strategic depth to territory captures by allowing attackers to cut off territories that might otherwise be hard to take and deny the defenders access to grenades, C4, MAXs, and so on. The two systems are similar only in very vague senses, and it's clear that the PS2 devs are not simply copy/pasting this feature from PS1 in any respect.

That's just how TR is, you have to learn to accept that. Outfits are mostly organized, but general infantry TR is a poo poo show of conscripts and drunks, stoners and house wives, all of them jammed together into one barely thinking swarm of maddened killers. I LOVE THEM ALL.

Best fight I ever had was when we(TR) got warp gated on Indar and could just hop in a tank and be in the battle of our lives in, like, twenty seconds. I wish we got warp gated more often sometimes.

Yesterday I was following a zerg of TR infantry only to come to the conclusion that we were running into the middle of nowhere for no reason. It was hilarious watching 40+ guys come to a stop one by one as confusion dawned. I love TR>
