So I'm getting ready to sell my mother in law's '91 automatic. 121k, new paint new top, flawless. It's in western (BFE) New York where seeing a Miata is like seeing a unicorn, looking at the current market up there I'm starting the asking price at over $5k and should probably get pretty close to it. Not bad after I got it for her for 3.5 grand about six or seven years ago.

Installed that cable I posted above and can now use my phone/zune/ipod for driving music.

Finally had a chance to drop the Miata off at the body shop after my neighbor backed into it over the winter. They did a pretty good job, I was worried about the paint match with the Marina Green Mica, but it looks spot on. Before and after: e: When I picked it up I was talking to the dudes who did the work, they were joking about how they barely fit into it while working on it, and about the "cute little green miata" in the lot when they first saw it, so I braced myself for the gay jokes, but nah, they were actually really cool, one guy talked about his buddies who autocross them and asked me if I dented it up trying to drift opengl fucked around with this message at 04:17 on Jul 10, 2014 |

Yup the stock chrome wheels were rusted/flaking when I got the car and two of them wouldn't hold air

Where did you find the 10mm bolt? I don't think I have one. I think your Bose unit has more pins?

It was on the left side, had to lay in the footwell to access it. Were both of those ports occupied? The one on the right looks like it would fit the cable.

I should've mentioned that - the larger port (smiley-ball side) was plugged in, but the smaller port was not. I assumed it was where satellite radio would plug in if I had it. From one of the images on the amazon page you linked, I thought there were a lot more pins on the Bose unit, but now I realize the plug is probably made for maximum configurability and a bunch of those pin-slots are unused. Hell, for $7, I'll buy it and try it and not care much if it doesn't work. Nice find!

So I think I'm getting some pinging on my 1997 right now, so I'm trying to check the timing. Problem is that the timing mark is really jittery; it looked like it was bouncing around between 14 and 8 degrees at idle. I googled it and it looks like there are multiple causes, but one thing that stuck out to me was shorting the diagnostics box. I did not do that because my Haynes manual claimed that you only do that for 1995 and older. Miata.net did not mention any difference between model years. It's too dark to check right now, but is my Haynes manual full of poo poo or what? I'm hoping it is because otherwise it looks like it might be a loose timing belt or messed up pulley and I do not want that

I had the same problem timing my 97. The manual is wrong, you do have to short the pins in the diagnostic box. If the engine gets hot, you should also pull the fuse for the main fan, because the electrical load as it comes on can mess with your timing also. Just keep an eye on your temp and don't let it overheat.

Thanks, you were right. Turns out it was advanced about 2-3 degrees so I put it back to stock. Hopefully that fixes it. The manual seems to be wrong about a lot of things though. I was looking for the location of the idle adjustment screw and it said NOT to adjust it, but the photo pointed to some other bolt on the throttle body. Pretty annoying.

What is everyones opinion on the Axis "OG-san" wheels, 15X8 +25 205/50/15, almost a basketweave look. Rice, or cool? Spare me the "its your car, you decide", i don't have enough self-assurance to think like that

Rice, or cool? 205 is too narrow for 8 inches, I recently scrapped a car with 8 inch wheels and 205 tires and they didn't fit the rims right at all, the tread pattern was all messed up and concave. Those rims are also kind of heavy for their size. I'm finding all different weights on various places on the internet, everything from 14 to 17 pounds, but even the lightest weight given is pretty heavy. I ended up going with Advanti Storm rims since 6ULs aren't available and they haven't disappointed me yet. http://www.good-win-racing.com/mazda/miata/61-1387.html?id=WgJy9tvd

205s are faster on an 8" wheel than a 7" wheel. 205mm is 8.07". Hardly hella flush or a sweet tire stretch.

It was probably just the weird tires they had on them then. Given the rest of the weird parts the car had they were probably the cheapest tires they could find on ebay.

The only hitch is that the volume is kind of low - I had to max it out with the top down - but that could be due to my using a Nexus 5 as low volume out of the headphone jack is a known issue. I have an Altoid-tin headphone amp kicking around that might solve it. I may still upgrade the headunit in the future, but this will keep me happy for a while.

I went to install the same cable in my 6 and discovered an iPod adapter already installed. Sadly the cable was cut so I went ahead and installed the simple line in.

Mark Booth has been dropping some truth bombs on Miata.net in regards to the ND. The dude is obviously a Mazda Community Outreach/Crowd Control guy. Latest stuff: 160-165 HP 155-158 Ft-lbs ~2350 lbs The 2015 Mazda2 has been semi-revealed and he also said that the focus groups for the ND were shown extremely similar interior designs. The weight is a bit depressing; however, same power as the NC, +15 ft-lbs, and a 200 lb diet isn't going to be something I'll cry myself to sleep about. There will definitely before area under the curve, too.

That's a disappointing weight? poo poo that's only a hair over the weight of a late NA. I would rather ~200 hp at that weight but an extra 30hp would probably help my NA out a lot.

Also, you'll have side airbags and have a better chance of not being maimed in a crash. Yay modern safety. The Skyactiv 2.0L 13:1 motor gets 29/40mpg in a car that weighs 400 lbs more. Like I said, not going to be crying myself to sleep any time soon.

Have we heard anything at all about the Fiat twin? Maybe that'll get the 1.4 Turbo from the 500 Abarth? I would expect Mazda's main priority to be keeping costs and weight down, 165hp sounds about right.
