Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed in the new WITTR. I don't know why in hindsight, but when I preordered it I was expecting something more drone-y and atmospheric than whatever this is.

So someone in my Twiiter cohort posted this. It came HIGHLY recommended, which usually leaves me let down, but I ended up really loving this: Aura by Saor http://saor.bandcamp.com/album/aura It's black-y, folk-y, Celtic-y. It's not cheesy or corny and it's really beautiful without being saccharine.

I really like the new WITTR, but I also listen to a lot of ambient synth. It's better than what Ulver is making these days.

They play stuff from every era and are just so darn happy to be up on stage - it really comes through. I've never seen them put on a bad or even mediocre show. Relatedly, I missed them at Hellfest this year, because they were on at 1am and I could barely stand up from tiredness. Oh and add some Sólstafir to your desert playlist! A friend of mine once described them as "Queens of the Ice Age" and the band liked it so much, they put it on Facebook.

I was driving back from Sonisphere festival over the weekend, we were all knackered after 3 days of metal. Painkiller hit the playlist and we just woke the gently caress up and I was compelled to put my foot down and fly down the motorway. That loving drum outro.

Anyone who goes to the WITTR west coast shows I'd be interested in a trip report. My friend and co-worker plays in their tour opener and he has been pretty tight-lipped about his creative output. It's not metal which seems odd that they are opening for a Black Metal band until I realized that latest WITTR album is all synth music. I can't imagine the crowd is going to take that well.

I've seen them a lot. Like Evil said, they really just love to be there, and it shows. They play stuff from pretty much every album (except Eld, because those songs are so goddamn long) Also, somehow Grutle's voice sounds better live than in the studio.

I mean, the first track certainly isn't short, but the rest aren't long at all, and are fairly average length for a band with progressive elements. You know, from what I've read the dude's a bit of a flakey gently caress, and I'm not that excited about Unisonic musically anyways, but I can't help being a little amazed by Michael Kiske's voice. Namely the fact that the guy sounds the exact loving same as he did when Keepers I came out. The guy really has lost exactly none of his pipes in 27 years. I'd say that's worth at least some respect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb1yz3BJQ5k
