Believe it or not, when it comes to Arthurian cinema, the Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail is one of the most honest portrayals of the genre on film. Especially if the source literature is the oldest welsh texts like the Mabinogion. :eng101:
Disturbingly so, it's kind of amazing and bizarre how much of it they actually got right considering it's Monty Python. That said, they tend to research things incredibly well for most of their weird sketches from the maker of the Zeppelin to early Romantic poets.

Anyway that guy does own and I am looking for used cookbooks of his on amazon now.

There was also an episode of the Simpsons (the spin-off showcase), where Skinner and Wiggum are at a restaurant in New Orleans, and a chef that looks like Paul Prudhomme comes wheeling out and gives them a plate of something or the other, and he says the 'I guarantee' line, even though he doesn't really have that Cajun accent. You might have seen that and got the chef expectation from it, even if they gave the line to the wrong chef.

What the hell in pop culture does this remind me of? I *know* I've seen the whole joke about the robot trying to gently do something for a human only for it to backfire horribly, but the source(s) are eluding me.

There have definitely been lots of variations on this joke in lots of different things. The Simpsons alone has probably used it multiple times.
