BTW is the Biotech Antiproton Turret kit module as good as the Romulan Flamethrower Turret kit module? One of the fleet admirals opened up a whole slew of lockboxes and started passing around their contents like candy, and I got this kit module among other things. The DPS on the tooltip is insane, around 90 DPS, but I wonder if it's bugged like the Omega torp tooltip. I already have the Romulan Flamethrower Turret.

You're in.

Biotech turret has a bit shorter max range than regular or flamethrower turrets, but it does way more dps and the knockback is alright if you're trying to defend an area. I think it has an easier time targetting closer targets than the flamethrower mode too.

Huh, well it turns out the Mirror Mogai is one of the worst Romulan escort warbirds. Oh well, I was planning on eventually replacing it with an Ar'kif at some point.

(But I love the iridescent paint job :qq:)

I suppose the escort version of the free Ha'Ha'Ha is probably better but I can't stand to look at the thing.

I bought a mirror ha'apax advanced war bird the other day because it was like 200,000 EC and it may be the worst romulan ship I've flown. I have no idea what it's purpose is supposed to be.

There you go. Is there ever an excuse for the Ha'apax?

Apparently I can get the fleet Mogai and put the mirror skin on it if I keep this Mogai around...but then I wouldn't be able to get the Ar'kif and its hangar bay...hmm...

So who else is ready for dilithium weekend? Two weeks to go and I've got close to 20k marks stored over three characters. Wondering if it's worth converting them to zen prior to 9.5 release or just keeping the dilithium.

Thinking it's probably better to convert what I can for future-proofing.

Crit Damage isn't especially worth it either. Crit Damage is only especially worth it if you're critting often in the first place. Romulans have a fairly significant leg up on this via Romulan Operative(1-2% per bridge officer depending on the rank of Operative. You yourself as a Romulan can also take it as a trait, it's the 1.5% version), but there ain't that much raw Crit Chance to be had in the wild.

Your base Crit is 2.5%.

Every weapon can get CritHx2(x3 is theoretical, but put it this way, most of weapons that have it are special in some way, like the Experimental Romulan Plasma Beam Array). So per weapon is 4%.

Assimilated Module(Borg Rep) grants 0.92%.

Accuracy Overflow(That is, accuracy over 100%-the base is 95%, not counting the target's Defence%, which is affected by whole bunches of things, including movement speed(Never stop moving EVER)-turns into extra crit chance and crit damage) grants some, but as far as I'm aware no one knows the exact conversion rate.

Fleet grants the Vulnerability Locators which are 1.6% per one. There's also the max Dyson Rep Auto Targeting Modules for Accuracy.

The Dyson deflector grants 5% Accuracy for Overflow.

Nukara rep has the Particle Converter universal console granting 10% extra accuracy for Beams only.

Accurate trait, of course. 10% Accuracy.

I'm sure I've missed plenty. Long story short, it's hard to get raw crit chance high, so crit damage isn't as useful as you'd like.
It's more complicated than that. Luckily someone else put together a tool at http://comatoes.github.io/sto-crit-calc/ which does all the math for you. The best damage usually ends up being a combination of crth and crtd unless you're a romulan running a bunch of superior operative BOFFs, in which case you want all crtd.

Speaking of which, all romulans should be running all superior operatives BOFFs, because having a crit chance over 25% is amazing.

So for shields, engine, and deflector, what are the choice ones there for pve?

I had assumed pretty much undine now at least for engine and deflector (deflector has the damage and accuracy bonus). However, I take it from the chat last night that one of the omega rep sets is still better? Specifically, the omega force set for tetryon glider.

Shields I think is still dyson, but I remember some wavering at possibly the undine being better.

Lagomorphic

AKA: Orthonormal
Yeah the two main combos are: assimilated 2-piece + Dyson shield or Omega 2-piece + resilient elite fleet shield (ResB).

The Omega setup gives you tetryon glider for extra shield damage and the assimilated gives you a fuckload of built in hull and shield regen which either lets you survive anything or be less defensive in your boff powers without dying.

The undine stuff is okay and gives you some fun click powers but I don't think it's as good as the omega or assimilated combo so don't bother with it until you've got dil to burn on trying out new gimmicks.

Yeah you want a base turn rate of at least 12 before DHC's are worth the effort. The Risian corvette is the weird edge case where it goes to fast and turns too well to use DHC's effectively. For anything else look at the turn rate.

Yeah get in the channel and ask there for a Dental invite of you went fed-allied. The fed/kdf ally thing is basically just a way to add Romulans without splitting the playerbase into thirds. Also it lets them join existing fleets so we don't have to grind out a third loving starbase.

Yeah for all the talk of Romulans being a "mini-faction" they almost have an entire story arc from 1-50 and a good amount of ships. Splitting them up is just to not divide the player base even more between three factions.

The content they share with the factions is already stuff that 95% of the factions share with each other.

I find it annoying that there's no variety of boffs for Romulan Republic characters. Why not have a nearly equal chance of getting a Reman or Suliban recruitment mission as a Romulan one, like with the other factions?

Also if you haven't tried the Plasma Piercing Beam rifle, spend some dil and get one (or pay EC for the lovely white version if you're cheap). It's amazing. A literal space machine gun that continues firing (not in bursts like the "full auto" rifle, real automatic fire) until you let go of the trigger. The range kind of sucks though.

That and grabbing blue male tac boffs from the embassy (everyone do this, not just romulans). It's a real pain finding them on the exchange because you can't search or sort on boff traits. Remember that blue quality boffs can have the trait too, and when you buy off the exchange, be carful. Pubbies who don't understand boff traits will list worthless boffs for multiple millions just to fit in.

The best thing about the piercing beam rifle is that it does exploit damage. Give the boffs a pulsewave or minigun to apply expose and then use the secondary to just vaporize stuff. The Romulan Wide Beam Rifle is okay too, its basically a split beam rifle that does damage to five targets instead of three with the secondary.

I set my alts up with the stupidly cheap white Mk IX versions of the piercing beam rifle for running the voth ground battlezone and it appears to be just as good if not better than Mk XII stuff. Just turn on auto-fire and focus targets.

Is the one from the basic dil store the best version of this you can get?

Woolie Wool

AFAIK there is no better one available than the Mk XI purple one from the dil store.

I started a Romulan alt and the small variety of ships greatly reduces replayability for the Romulan faction. They badly need some more cruisers and science vessels, especially at lower levels. Perhaps the science vessels could even be Reman ships with warp cores instead of singularity tech, or something else to set them apart.

If you're just looking for superior operatives, don't forget the trait can appear (if more rarely) on blue bridge officers too and you can sometimes save a few million there. If you're just slapping them in bridge officer seats it's not like the quality matters as long as you got the right traits.
