We have a 90 day exchange policy at Costco. A lot of the time that's enough time for a prolific pedophile to jam pack their phone with cp. They're also always very intent on getting phones with sd card slots.

Got my cheapo 4G router and it seems to work as advertised. Thankfully, even operating the 4G, the USB connection to the router is enough to keep it charged. I am having one weird problem, however. Whether the 4G connection is being shared by the router or the built-in wifi hotspot, any time my wife or I tries to connect an iPhone, the connection immediately becomes unusable. We can both connect via laptops simultaneously without issue and we aren't at the five device 3G limit, much less the ten device 4G limit. Is this some weird quirk of trying to hotspot a Verizon device?

It's happened with other devices before, though it's usually pretty rare. What does Google say about that model router when connected to an iphone?

Return policy on phones used to be unlimited days and full refund if you just brought in the device although they came with giant accessory packs (those accessories cost like nothing). That was also when they were Sprint exclusive at Costco and I worked for that miserable company (Sprint) and had to train sales indirect employees to sell phones. The things they were willing to take back blew my mind. One of the few companies left where the customer is generally right and why I switched from SAMS Club. A little annoying to watch people abuse the system and ruin the forever return policy but in general they're very good to work with. Except in Hawaii in the checkout line. What a bunch of dicks. gently caress them.

The Bionic went on sale at Costco 88 days after my parents bought a pair of Thunderbolts there. I had zero compunction about telling them to take those things back for an exchange. Those phones were pure uncut garbage.

"Ok sir/mam, you spend the call admitting that you have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to technology, smartphones, and data. Yet you can tell me that you know you didn't use data." Or "Ok sir/mam, you know the data wasn't used because your kid told you they didn't use it." I am averaging a few calls a day about data usage and this is what it comes down to. I'm kind of depressed about the 2nd one because now and then (rarely) I hear them cover the phone and yell at their kid for using the data then uncover it and argue that their kid didn't use the data.

All the US carriers stripped wireless charging from the g3 and changed the pin layout to keep you from adding it back. Currently the only way he with a poo poo flip case from Verizon.

Could my Netgear router just be better equipped to handle wifi devices like phones than the new router or the phones built-in hotspot?

Oh goddamnit they just had to release the g3 at $99, been trying to hold out for something nicer but this damned s3 shutting off at 40-60% is getting rather old. Are there any phones that are coming out in the next month or two that would make me really regret the g3? I just want to have something with a good display, good battery life and a halfway decent antenna since I work in a mobile deadzone and can hardly send texts most of the time.

If you want a decent antenna I'd recommend maybe waiting for whatever Motorola's planning to launch. In my experience they've usually been the best for reception.

Since samsung seems to be the bottom of the barrel for antenna strength maybe the g3 would be enough of an upgrade to make life a bit more bearable for my work signal issues. Now its the debate on getting a new battery for my s3 and dealing with it for a few more months (been month to month for almost a year now) or trying out the g3 with the 15 day return window. Might be worth it to nab the g3 and sell the s3 while its still worth $120ish.

Eh, that stuff is mostly anecdotal. Yesterday me and my girlfriend went to a state park, my Razr M had trouble holding any sort of connection and drained the battery while her s4 held onto a 1x data connection and didn't drain nearly as much.

So I lost my old rear end Samsung Galaxy S (1 maybe?) that was all most 4 years old and was hoping someone could answer a few questions since I'm pretty clueless when it comes to cell phones. I still have unlimited data, which would be nice to keep but isn't a necessity. So I'm pretty sure I'll lose it if I get a new phone though them, right? Can I buy a used or new phone online and keep unlimited data? And from what I somewhat understand that phone must be unlocked or Verizon compatible? If I did buy a new phone through them I was thinking about an iPhone. But from what I understand a new one is coming out this fall, so it would be nice to have that one. Can i get a current iphone then upgrade it when a new one comes out. I'm not really a a hi-end smart phone user, but I just would like to be knowledgeable of my options and not get hosed by Verizon. Any info would be very welcome. Thanks.

So it seems like the Verizon prepaid plans are a much better deal than postpaid at this point. My wife and I share a 6GB plan (two smartphones, one tablet) that comes to about $170/month with taxes which I think is after a minor company discount. We are both about to be off contract (early September). She uses about 1GB a month and I use about 4GB (on smartphones). It seems like we could just get the $45/month (1GB) and $65/month (4GB) both on auto-pay and save ourselves $60/month? Over the two year contract this would save us $1440 which is more than the cost of two new fancy smartphones. I guess no tablet plan, but meh. I guess I don't understand how Verizon can't make their data pricing more competitive on post-paid at this point, or am I missing something?

If you have a cell phone, I don't see the point of getting a tablet with a data plan. Just tether off your phone.

You can keep unlimited if you buy a used phone or you buy one new full price. You can't do anything that would result in you re-upping your contract (i.e. cashing in your upgrade discount chip), and you can't sign up for Edge. If you buy a used phone it has to be a Verizon phone; an unlocked GSM one won't work.

So with Verizon Edge do you ever actually own the device that you've been paying for? For example, after making the 20x $32.50 payments on an iPhone 5S (for a total of $650), is the phone yours at that point? Meaning, could you sell it and then get a new Edge phone from Verizon? Are you still under a 2 year contract on Verizon Edge? Or could you simply pay off the device and leave?
|
# ? Jul 19, 2014 16:56 |
|
Next/Jump/Edge are just 0% financing plans with a guaranteed tradein value that's probably worse than you could get if you sold the phone yourself on Swappa or something. You own it all the time; nobody is going to make you give it back unless you exercise your trade-in option. If you cease to be a customer of the carrier and you still owe money on the phone, then they just bill you for the balance you owe and it's due immediately. It's not like a standard 2-year contract where if you quit on 23 months and 29 days you're paying back way more than the subsidy you technically still "owe."

# ? Jul 19, 2014 17:17 |

Ah, that's actually much more reasonable than I expected. For people who are already on a 2-year contract, can you eat the ETF and switch to Edge? Can you bring your own phone to Edge and still get the associated savings? (e.g. $130/month for two smartphones + 10GB of data vs. $180 with standard 2 year contracts)

Woo got a g3 along with the zagg glass screen protector and spigen slim armor case. Really loving the screen and how crisp it is. The phone is very responsive and loads everything nice and quick. However Im really hating how the factory DPI is set so you can read the damned thing from across the room. Im very tempted to root and throw xposed on there for the per app dpi settings. Only other complaint is I got a single spec of dust under the screen protector .

I couldn't wait it out so I grabbed a G3 today. I figure if the new Motorolas are good I can just sell this. I finally decided today was the day I would sacrifice my unlimited data since I only use around 2gb per month without using WiFi. To my surprise they had a promo that gives my 6gb for the price of 2gb so that was a nice little bonus. Also, coming from a Droid Razr Maxx HD this loving screen is amazing.

I left the default on there and finally received 3 cheap ones today. Well each one had a spec of dust under it so back to square 1. BLehhhhh. I bought the LG case which is a huge rip off. The circle icons on the front are actually very nifty plus it doesn't really look like you are using your phone at work because most of your case is closed. There is a leather 3rd party one on amazon that looks nice. Yea it is as good as you can get and unless you wanted a phablet (note 4). Its not going to be eclipsed for some time. Edit: ^^ above poster. Yes any customer with unlimited data can usually get the Max plan. 6 gb for the price of 2. Thats as good as it gets really. I believe you can even go up to 8 on the tiers with it. Either way its a great deal. It sucks that most people who are mad about data don't understand that 6gb for 1 phone is fairly easy to deal with. There is a loyalty plan for a single line where its 60 for unlimited talk/text and 2gb of data. That doesn't seem like much but the overages are only 10/gb on that plan which means you could use 5.99 gb each month for the price of 2gb on More Everything. I never heard/read anything negative about it. The negatives from reviews come off as the writer trying to be objective while the reviews are glowing overall. From my experience, I always overlooked LG until the G2. They always made quality phones but nothing that made headlines. They kinda came out of nowhere with this one since it is clearly the best phone out there. So I could see people not expecting LG to blow everything out of the water and hesitant to accept that. The big questions were how the cpu would handle that high resolution (easily with 3gb of ram) or how the battery will respond (Pretty drat good). There seems to be 2 sets of benchmarks floating around. The 2gb model and 3gb model. The 2gb model makes it on par with other phones. The 3gb makes it at the top with the note 3.
