Cmdr Tomalak posted:Also it's the old version of the Creed. That's either an old tattoo or dude hasn't been to Mass in the last 3 years. There's no real way to add the extra words on there either... It's more or less the English Language Liturgical Consultation version that's used by Protestant denominations. I was going to guess Methodist, but they say "catholic church" rather than "Christian church" so I am guessing it's an Evangelical denomination's adaptation.

It's the older version of the Catholic Apostle's Creed word for word except reading "Christian" instead of Catholic." It would have been hardcore if he tried to fit the Nicene Creed.

Count Freebasie posted:It's the older version of the Catholic Apostle's Creed word for word except reading "Christian" instead of Catholic." It has "descended to the dead" rather than "descended into Hell" also. Obviously the different translations are going to be similar; it's a short text in a well-understood language. I would pay money to see someone with the Nicene Creed on their back. They'd have to be really fat or tall, or it would have to be tiny!

All this Creed chat has seriously made me think that my future tattoo of the Gayatri is at least a relatively less-bad idea.

Is there any way to get a quote on you that isn't terrible? I always really loved JR Oppenheimer's interview answer about testing the atomic bomb and how it reflects on the majesty and horror of human innovation but I feel like it's too long (and possibly pretentious) to get put on my body permanently. I don't want to be in this thread.

Seven words or less combined with a symbolic image is a nice rule of thumb.

I have a tattoo that's "kind of" a quote except it's not. I took the quote and translated (transcribed? drew?) it into a simple regular tattoo. To most people it's just a bunch of feathers turning into birds but to me it says "this poo poo is bananas -GWEN STEFANI". No I don't actually have that tattoo but the idea is the same.

I have a friend who has "always eat your brussel sprouts" in script (perfectly legible) on her ribs. Her grandfather died when she was young and it was the last thing he said to her. Terrible is probably the last word I would use to describe it. But it is a different situation than a literary, movie, or history quote that you happen to like.

Better to have a mushroom cloud and Kenneth Bainbridge's reply to Oppenheimer. "Now we are all sons of bitches."
