Yes.
Goddamn I want to go to Wacken again so bad. I was there in 2004, and so were Amon Amarth, but sadly I was still too much of a melodic metal weenie at the time to appreciate them. :(
Was still one of the best trips I've ever made. Good times.

Speaking of Amon Amarth, if you'd like your dose of AA with a helping of Bathory mixed in, try this on for a size:

Just came across that via a review. Bloody great stuff.

Watched the livestream and they were indeed awesome, here's a recording:

The only thing is I wish they'd play some older stuff too, they only had one song from before Fate of Norns. :(

Just came home from Wacken. The highlight of the festival was definitely Devin Townsend, who, predictably, didn't make a single mistake, put on a hell of a show, and was incredibly funny while doing it. And he had the crowd do a giant group-hug instead of a circlepit. :haw: The entire gig is on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okLjATl5xx8 the circlehug is at 1:06:00.

Another highlight was Arch Enemy's new singer, which kicks loving rear end! Having seen them with Angela, I can safely say that she's an even better singer and frontman. They were incredible, despite being put in a bizarre slot at noon, playing the first show at one of the main stages, and I was almost too hungover to stand.

Other highlights in no particular order include:
Behemoth's sheer evilness and comic book villain-y theatrics (what do you mean setting inverted crosses on fire while I play a song called "Christians to the Lions" is slightly over the top?)
Avantasia was incredible, I had goosebumps for like an hour
Carcass's loving flawless and incredible set
Children of Bodom actually being incredible and not super lovely and badly rehearsed like when I saw them in 2008
Hammerfall making me seventeen again for an hour
Chtonic was incredible, though I'm pretty sure the singer was a bit confused about where he was playing when he demanded that the crowd sing along to a song with Chinese lyrics

That song has some English sentences which where projected on the video behind the band (I was in the front row, also I'm on their self shot crowd picture they've put on facebook.)

Slipknot posted up a new song as a teaser of their new album. Joey Jordison is gone, and is replaced with possibly Lamb of God's drummer?

Haha, its the random shouting of weird poo poo that makes Devin such a good performer.

'I have an incredibly small penis!'
'Holy poo poo there's a woman in the crowd, i'll bet you any money her boyfriend is here too'
'I've been married for 25 years, so its been 23 years since I had a blowjob. Unless you count my dad'.

He's got some good pipes too.

So, Jukka Nevalainen is taking a break from Nightwish due to health issues. A bummer for him.

However, the interesting part is that the replacement drummer on the upcoming album will be Kai Hahto.

Yes.
Floor Jansen actually stuck around and is now officially their lead vocalist. This is also awesome, because that woman rules. Fantastic voice and range, awesome stage presence. They couldn't have found a better frontwoman.

Apparently the next album is slated for release "before summer 2015". Can't wait. With Hahto on the drums and Jansen belting out some proper dramatic vocals, I'm hoping it'll have some real weight behind it.

Probably the most similar band to NeO's sound I've come across, though they use keys instead of violin. Not complaining, I like keyboards in metal a ton. They're real cool guys with a great sense of humor, too.

Them and NeO both have records due this year, I'm hype

Who are the best vocalists that can do both death and clean vocals well?

Henchman of Santa
Aug 21, 2010
Mikael Akerfeldt
The guy currently in Amorphis
Dax Riggs (if by "death vocals" you mean harsh vocals in general)
Dan Swano sings, right?

You wanna save this place, right? And I want to destroy it. Brick by hypocritical brick.
Mikael Akerfeldt and Devin Townsend are tops.
Jason Mendonca from Akercocke.
I don't like the band, but Christian Älvestam (ex-Scar Symmetry) is decent enough at both.
and Alexander von Meilenwald of The Ruins of Beverast. Entirely a solo project.

Well, that's all he does now, he hasn't done death growls in something like 15 years because he was getting problems with his voice. That's why all the growls on Crimson II were guested.

Yeah, they're going back to the early format where everyone sings something. They're also ramping the theatrics back up because they feel those have been slipping with the relatively recent focus on the music.
