I seem to be having real problems with running out of SP in Persona 3 The Answer. I did at times in the base game, too, but there were accessories and armors that gave extra SP when equipped so it was easier to manage. So far I haven't found anything like that in The Answer - not even the accessory store has anything. Occasionally enemies drop an emerald, but they're too rare to really help, likewise with actual SP-restoring items in treasure chests. How did people handle this?

When you run out of sp rush to the save point at the end of the dungeon, use the access point to go back to the lobby and then go through the dungeon again without running into shadows.

That's what I did, at least.

Woah Ultimax is adding a LOT of characters in this case.

Margaret having 3 Personas reminds me of Zappa from Guilty Gear. He had a move that would summon a random ghost and each one played very differently, he was weak on his own without a ghost so you basically always wanted one up and had to change your playstyle on the fly depending on what you get. If you summon successfully enough you could activate the giant lightning god super summon as a reward.

Guilty Gear has my favorite character concepts of any game. Zappa would be a total gimmick in most games but in certain incarnations of Guilty Gear he was a top tier character.

costumes aren't really feasible with a sprite-based game because that instantly requires another entire set of sprites just for that outfit

I don't think you'll see any game-breaking debuffs for a while, but physical or late-game hunt skills coupled with magic and element shields can be brutal.
Other things to know is that the game hates you for planning development in advance and will pull characters from your party because plot says so. It's not so bad in DDS1 but reaches bullshit levels in DDS2. For DDS1 you should not rely on always having Heat. And give basic healing and earth to someone who isn't Argilla.

Oh, and unlike Nocturne DDS does not let you stack shields. Void Fire will be cancelled and replaced by Void/Repel/Drain anything else.

Fog Breath and similar debuffs aren't in DDS (altough taunt is). But (de)buffs are still very useful.
It's better if you focus on magic, since a lot of late game bosses and enemies are immune/reflect physical attacks IIRC and there's no pierce skill. Also, Focus has been replaced with a skill a works the same but only applies to magic (forgot the name).
The elemental mantras give void/refl/null spells and passive skills of their own element. So it's a good idea to focus on agi mantras on Serph for example, since he's weak to agi spells.
Also, the very final boss resist almighty, so don't even try that unless you want to waste your time.

I managed to snag myself a copy of Strange Journey for dirt cheap. It was the only DS/3DS SMT game I didn't already own, so I was pretty excited.

So far? Not too bad. I'm only on Area C, but so far I've been having a lot more fun than I expected with all the horror stories about the game. The lack of certain quality of life improvements you see in Persona 4 Golden and SMT IV can get a bit annoying at times, as can the save point locations, but there hasn't been a massive "gently caress you, game" moment as of yet.

It definitely feels awkward seeing the demon roster and sprites after having played SMT IV first, though. It's painfully obvious now just how much material from Strange Journey they recycled for that game.

I was definitely planning around Fog Breath, so all of that was super helpful. Thanks a bunch.

Is the game as difficult as Nocturne, generally? The first few areas have been cake compared to Nocturne's, for what it's worth.

I'm not surprised Adachi is popular. He's basically anime Elliott Rogers, and we know how many of those guys are in every culture.

It's a bit easier, I guess, and the starting area is designed for your default team.
DDS has a share of tricky bosses, and there are areas with insane encounter rate, and points of no return in dungeons, and long stretches without save points, but you're less likely to get wiped. Hama no longer kills, for one, and MP restoration items become available earlier, not half-way through the plot. Damage floors and darkness don't really come into play until DDS2. DDS2 is generally crazy, though, as it constantly changes your party and makes it hard do develop anyone into a specialist.

Also, there are no "gates" on your skill development. Anyone can do healing, or physical, or develop all the way to full elemental immunity, without any arbitrary limiters, but money and atma. You don't forget skills too, and you can rearrange your skill sets at any moment, without worrying about losing vital abilities.
For example the skills which give your non-combat characters XP can be put on when a character is in reserve, and replaced with combat stuff when you bring the guys back into action.

The main thing about DDS is that you want to pick the opposite element for every character (for example, Ice in Heat's case) so that you can eventually get a resistance skill against the element they are weak against. This means fewer extra turns for enemies.

Also you want may want to set aside some time to keep Cielo and Gale up to par with the rest because you will be forced to use them a lot in the sequel.

Mantras and stats don't carry over :dawkins101:

Cielo is a funny bird, since he has no elemental weakness and rocks in early stages, but status effects gently caress him up really bad and they are not easy to safeguard against.

There is no point at all to doing that through most of the game, because the benefits of it are only available by the very end of DDS1 unless you spend far too long grinding. And you won't have anywhere near enough money or easy access to AP until by the end of DDS1 to manage it anyway.

YOu get a bonus to stats in DDS2 based on how many Mantras that character has mastered. It caps out at +5 to every stat for a full grid.

Really? It wasn't like that at all for me. I'm fairly certain I maxed out most characters without grinding too heavily. As long as you try to eat a decent amount of enemies (and go after those hunting points) it should be pretty easily achievable for at least your mains before the final dungeon. I had a bigger issue with it in DDS2 because the hunting points seemed to be less rewarding.

I'm sure if you get insanely lucky with Cells you can do it earlier, but getting the passive bonus for one person takes almost 500,000 Macca and there's no easy way of getting that much money pre-Titanias. It's just not feasible, especially not if you're going to try and do it for everyone. That's a 2,000,000 investment right there, and then you have Cielo who's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

I might have stopped playing but I was on an Elliptical at the time, so kind of just stuck for 50 minutes or so. I did, however, once I found the way to the path with holes, say there is no way I was going back to explore that area and find items. It probably took me the better part of an hour to systematically work it out.

It was bullshit nonsense, probably the worst of all the first person dungeon crawlers dungeons, but its over quick enough. How many more sectors are there? I'm really hoping for a solid 2 or 3 more, perhaps one for each alignment.
