Guess that answers the question of how lockbox ships will be handled then. I guess "upgradable for free" makes more sense than "automatically upgraded when the patch hits" like they did with them when fleet ships hit since you'd presumably still want to use them while leveling to 60.

I have curiosity. Aux2Bat is no longer the pro PvE build, okay, that's cool. I have a Fed Tac Alien who's got a Galor and a Corvette sitting in her hangar, if Aux2Bat is basic poo poo nowadays then what's a fancy way to rig a Galor?

Just keep aux2bat. It's still fine for now. It seems likely to get the nerf with the new season but we have no idea what else will get rebalanced with that yet.

Can I ask what the a2b build is?

Asimo
Sep 23, 2007

Find a ship with enough engineering slots to have A2B 1, preferably something with at least Lt.Com and Lt. engineering seats so you can have two copies and EPTS1/EPTW3/ET1 on top of it. Get two or three purple Technicians, specifically the ones that reduce all bridge officer cooldowns by 10% each when A2B is used. Put power levels at 100/15/15/75, and you basically have all non-Aux power levels at 90-100+ and all your other abilities at the global cooldown.

Main downside is you have poo poo for Aux so most science and healing powers are useless; you'd need to use an Aux battery or wait for it to regen a bit between A2B uses in order to get the most out of Hazard Emitters or TSS or the like, and obviously you wind up with having one or two engineering powers dedicated to A2B. The main reason it got developed was so that the more tac-focused cruisers could basically double their tac power slots so you could keep FAW and APB rolling indefinitely even with just a single Lt.Com tac slot, and it's not like most of them had much in the way of science abilities to nerf. It's just that since the build came into vogue a lot of the science powers have been buffed, Aux power has been buffed indirectly in a few ways, and there's come up alternate ways of doing the same thing (such as the expensive as gently caress attack pattern cooldown reducing Conn Officers) that give you the upsides with none of the downsides.

It uses the skill Auxiliary to Battery combined with multiple purple Technician doffs to lower the cooldown of all BOFF abilities. It's basically a way to have your BOFF abilities fire off much more often. The wiki has several a2b builds on it.

Cryptic hates it because tech doffs always work and you can get multiple purple tech doffs by running a certain colonization doff mission chain. Cryptic really wants high-end builds to rely on doffs which have a random chance of working (this is really stupid), and doffs which are only available from the z-store.

Take one or two copies of the engineering power Auxiliary Power to Battery. Take 3 purple Technician doffs that reduce power cooldowns when you use Aux2Bat. Go into combat, use all your buffs, hit Aux2Bat, watch your cooldowns get significantly reduced and have fun. This allows cruisers with only one Tactical bridge officer to cycle through their tactical team, beam fire at will and attack pattern skills a lot faster than normal, as well as their heals and buffs from engineering and science, making them a lot nastier than normal. We used to run Aux2Bat Galor teams into PVP before everyone and their dog knew about Aux2Bat, people would get super angry and accuse us of hacking etc while we wiped the floor with them. Nowadays everyone knows about the build so you'll probably get a science captain hitting you with subnucleonic beam as soon as you hit aux2bat, as that's the fastest way to leave you dead in the water. Unless you've got debuff cleansing warpcore doffs and are an engineer, good luck tanking enemy players while you've got every power on a minute cooldown and no auxiliary power.

The "Cryptic wants every doff to be random chance" is insane since it means they have to balance around it being up 100% of the time, while players have to build around them as if they never procced or else get vaped when that happens. It's frustrating for everyone involved, and it'd be way better to have every doff have a passive, reliable effect (preferably modifying how powers work rather than flat numeric boosts).

And the fact A2B is the only endgame build that can be gotten for "free" rather than from real money gamble boxes probably hasn't escaped their notice, no.

Look at all these people coming out of the woodwork because of the excitement related to another 10 levels to grind.

Anyway let me summarize all the pubbie feedback in the metagame feedback thread:
http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1188601

It's like this. Every pubbie is loving amazing at video games and internet spaceships and knows best. Whenever they die to a poo poo tier NPC its because they weren't healed enough by their other team mates or because the tank didn't draw aggro and they died standing in fire. IN NO WAY did they die because they are, in fact, poo poo. How dare you even suggest such a thing! The nerve! :byodood:

Therefore, whatever shitbox they fly in game needs to be buffed, everything else needs a nerf and they are right and you are wrong because emotional language here. Don't even think of using maths to refute this because they alone know the TRUTH. Everything else is just a comical display of ignorance of how core game mechanics actually work. Also the holy trinity of WoW needs to apply to internet spaceships because reasons.

Remember, if you disagree with any of this you are in fact a troll, cyber-bully, space-racist, noob or some classification of bounder and/or scallywag. :tipshat:

A lot of this is ANGRY TRUTH AND JUSTICE because no matter what cryptic and/or PWE do regarding game balancing the simple fact is that pubbie immersion is still ruined because they can't be the one true Kirk flying the original Enterprise. Alone of course because other players in an MMO ruin the experience.

Skimming over some of the good posts in that thread it seems to me that the game is in need of massive sweeping changes to make it anything near balanced or at the least flat out better (more variety is useful abilities.) In the old days this would be totally doable, even when it was for the worse or killed games like Star Wars Galaxies, there was always the nuclear option of just ripping the old busted up patchwork system out and replacing it with something more modern. In a game like this however, so many people, myself included have invested a lot of money into what they currently have, even if I didn't pay for the zen that bought all my stuff myself, someone paid money for that somewhere along the line and it feels like in this kind of environment, massive sweeping changes would just murder the game dead. (Which I guess it did in other examples too, nevermind.)

Well yes, game balance is utterly broken and that's the simple truth. The real question is: "Was there ever balance to begin with?"

No. :ssh:

It doesn't actually matter what they do because the fanbase is inherently and eternally unable to be pleased. Besides which its the same mob that travel to Las Vegas conventions regularly for a convention about a dead low-budget TV show. PWE can pretty much do what they want and they'll still fork out cash hand over fist. It's kind of like Games Workshop fans only the business model actually works for the digital age.

The whole metagame feedback thread is just a trap or a holding pen to contain the pubbie :spergin: until it spills over again, as it inevitably will. They don't give two fucks about what's going on in there but so long as the pubbies are sissy slap fighting each other about spaceships it gives the illusion of listening to the fans. gently caress the fans, they're terrible and deserve what they get :black101:

You're losing out on +1% crit chance on your captain but you can can still load up on SRO boffs and you get an extra trait slot for fancy lockbox traits so depending on how many of those you're buying it's kind of a wash.
