i loving hate cutesy error messages like that. windows xp had the perfect tone for the error messages with "shitapp has encountered a problem and needs to close."

all kinds of "aww, snap", "bad panda", ":(" and even "well, this is rather embarrassing" errors just feel like the program or web page is condescending me. "aww, baby got a boo boo? baby can't handle a real error message?"

those things could happen after i lose a significant amount of work, like this essay i'm writing in right now

i think it would be neat if, on the occasion of software errors, there were some sort of "explain this to me" button that brings up a concise lay-explanation of the problem.

for the most common poo poo (like network troubles) it'd basically be "you can't connect to the internet, and there's a million reasons why so who knows!"

Your Skype for Mac version is being retired
Dear thc,

We are now retiring older versions of Skype and it appears that you’re currently using one of these. To continue signing into Skype on your desktop you'll need to download the latest version. The new version comes with improved performance, the latest features and security updates, so you'll get the best possible Skype experience.

Update now: http://www.skype.com/download

they can't just auto update it I guess because of reasons

Microsoft kills Skype on Windows Phone 7, shocking users
Aira Quintana
Wednesday, August 13 2014

Microsoft confirmed that it will be retiring Skype on Windows Phone 7.

A parcel of Skype's official statement regarding this matter reads:
"We want everyone to experience the best Skype has to offer – from enhanced quality to better reliability to improved security – and the newest version of Skype is the way to do that. So everyone can benefit from the latest improvements, we sometimes retire older versions of Skype across all platforms, including mobile devices. For that reason, we are permanently retiring all Skype apps for Windows Phone 7."

The cessation of Skype on Windows Phone 7 will happen soon, and users will no longer be able to sign-in and access the freemium messaging app.

Users are advised to update to Windows Phone 8 or Windows Phone 8.1 to be able to use Skype, and cancel existing subscriptions to avoid being billed.

Shocked users took it to the official Skype forum to air disappointment over the discovery that the app no longer works on their Windows Phone 7 devices.

The frustration was multiplied for those who are unable to upgrade to Windows Phone 8 or Windows Phone 8.1, because their devices do not support Microsoft's latest OS releases.

To make things worse, it was revealed that Microsoft is still supporting Skype on older version of iOS and Android.

In fact, Skype reversed its original decision to drop Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard support to hopefully pacify outrage from several users that expressed disgust in this forum.

To appease the rage of Apple's Mac community, the messaging app confirmed that a version for Mac OS X will be available soon for download.
