You might enjoy Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2. It's a Cryengine game, so it looks pretty nice, and it is entirely, 100% about shooting people in the face with a silenced sniper rifle. My only beef with it is that there's no quicksave, and the checkpoints are in stupid places sometimes, but it's piss-easy and disturbingly satisfying. (Don't be tempted to get the first one though: it's utter garbage.) You won't be laying traps or getting creative though; occasionally you can kill someone by blowing something up, rather than shooting them in the face, but 99% of the time you will just be crawling around shooting people in faces. It's old school like that.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is exactly like a modern Call of Duty game. You'd be better off with Sniper Elite 3 or 2.

Having trouble recalling the name of a title (PC) that was recently rebooted.

Top-down turn based tactical RPG in the vein of X-COM but a separate IP entirely. You get a squad of units, manage inventory, stats, etc. The reboot might have been released within the last 18 months. It was received as above average but lacking maybe in depth & polish. The closest name I can think of is Shadow Grounds, but that's an isometric shooter type game & the one I'm thinking of is more X-COM style minus the humans vs. aliens setting.

Really the only thing I can think of is Black Mesa, that Double Action Boogaloo thing that was just posted, and maybe Eternal Silence? Though I never got around to playing that last one. I guess Fistful of Frags exists as well.

Just tried Double Action Boogaloo, man that was pretty fun. It was like traveling back in time. Valve needs to release a new loving FPS already so we can get some new mods.

Yup, Gunslinger is one of the best deals ever. I got it on sale for like $6 and got more entertainment out of it than many full-price games. It's mechanically dead simple but it's got such great presentation and polish that it easily transcends its price range.

Not fantasy per-se, but Expeditions: Conquistadors is pretty much all text, and you get to gently caress around as a spanish conquistador subjugating (or liberating) indigenous people.

Skulls of the Shogun is a port of a phone game but it's pretty great.

Invisble inc isn't fantasy, but it's like a turn based spy-thing that just came out on early access that is surprisingly fun.

Dungeonmans is made by a goon and is pretty great, but I always found it a bit simple. (that's more of a roguelike then a TBS.)

Teeechnically you have to wait a bit for completed maps to open back up for replay but I only think it's a few hours.

It's heavily skill based so grinding for equipment isn't as important as smart play. There's a large variety of equipment and cards so you can customize your characters pretty freely. The premium currency is used to get cosmetics, some exclusive side-quests, and an additional item drop but equipment is level based. You can't pay-to-win because you need to be at a certain point to equip good items and multiplayer fixes levels to put everyone on equal footing.

It's definitely one of the most reasonable F2P games I've played.

Yeah, now that I think of it, it does lock the quests after completion for a while, and I guess after running out of retries (not that I've ever ran out, I'm just that good :smug:). I think you'd have to poopsock it pretty hard to run out of anything useful to do, though.

Age of Wonders 3 maybe? It's a fantasy 4x so if you're playing random maps (really the core of the game despite it having two pretty decent campaigns) it only demands your attention when you want to give it.

I guess I'm looking for games with roguelike elements, but nothing horribly complex, and for me ToME and DCSS both cross the line slightly. I guess those two are considered pretty easy roguelikes, but something like Pixel Dungeons on Android is actually the perfect amount of complexity.
