I was bored so I decided to fire up this game for the first time in 2+ years, roll up a new toon and see what's changed. Turns out a lot. Since GoonTrek has obviously been abandoned I'd like an invite to the new chat channel. In as Alora@Moon_Slayer

Hey, what's the deal with Weapons Power and a hard cap?
|
# ? Sep 7, 2014 11:53 |
|
As I understand it your weapons power can't go above the effect of 125 power, but if you have more it protects you against weapon drain (so if you have 130 weapons power, you only get the bonus of 125, but if you get hit with a 5 power drain you don't go down to 120 - you stay at 125). Since shooting more than one energy weapon at the same time drains your power, you obviously want to get as much above 125 as you can. Yeah that works out pretty great. Between gear bumps, the Omega Weapon Amplifier, and Plasmonic leech, I rarely can even see visible weapon drain on the power bar. Even without the extra damage, bumping up power to weapons makes a major difference since you don't see much of a DPS drop.

Nothing in this game is particularly hard, that's the appeal. I love that I can steamroll elite STFs with a fresh 50. It's a great stress reliever.

Projectile Crafting hit 20 today. If anyone wants space torpedos i'll trade VRs for 3 intermix chamber / 4 warp field regulator, or actually craft you one if you provide catalysts as well. I've only really used green cats. I think its 42% crit with two green cats vs 46% with two blue cats.

Has there been any mention about what will be done to fleet gear like vulnerability locators with the upcoming expansion? I have ~170k fc, and given the short interval until the expansion hits, I'm wondering if it's better to sink the fc into something without MK designators (extra BOFF space slot, improved pets for Scim, etc.) vs. blowing it on something that might just need to be upgraded in a bit over 5 weeks.

I do wonder whether or not we'll be getting higher level pets; there's no level on them currently because you could only ever get them at 50 but now it's a 50-60 thing.

Hard to say. In theory, all that would need to happen is that the pets autoscale up to level 60 since it's not like we'll be getting new ranks of skills and such. I'm pretty sure the ones in game already do this for 1-50, since klanks have access to carriers (well, orion cruisers and the vo'quv from 40+) while leveling. On the other hand it's still Cryptic so I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to shove some 100k dil "upgrade" down your throat.

I've never had a Fed ship with a hanger bay before. I know Yellowstones are good for trolling the poo poo out of people, but what's best for PvE?

Scorpions from Romulan rep, I think.

MikeJF posted:I've never had a Fed ship with a hanger bay before. I know Yellowstones are good for trolling the poo poo out of people, but what's best for PvE? For basic Fed fighters, ignoring lockbox and lobi poo poo, Peregrines are pretty drat good. Otherwise the old classic Scorpions from Romulan rep are still good. Yellowstones aren't top tier dps but they've still got tractor beams and leave clouds of warp plasma everywhere so they're not a bad choice for loving up targets in pve. Really the one problem with Fed fighters is the Atrox and the Heavy Escort Carrier don't have any frigates so you're always sub-par compared to KDF carriers. EDIT Forgot the Elite Swarmers, they're pretty fun. All the beam overloads you could want, really fast respawn timer. Tholian Widow fighters from Tholian rep aren't terrible either, quantum torps and faw 1. Korgan fucked around with this message at 07:34 on Sep 8, 2014 |

Yeah but no single hanger bay ship has frigates, frigates are a full-carrier-only feature to help set them apart. Still Yellowstones. Scorpions are up there too thanks to High Yield torps. Peregrines are solid also. Yellowstones are one of the heaviest craft usable for Fed hangars since they don't get proper frigates.

Want to hear a funny story? I liked Saint Olivia's schtick, being a saint and all. So the other day i donated more than 25m of AP beam arrays, elachi beam arrays, winter outfits, etc to him to be given out accompanied by a prayer or wish that jkname be unbanned. Sort of like paying monks to say masses, i thought it was funny. I asked Saint Olivia tonight how it had gone, and was told he'd pretty much kept all the stuff, since he 'didnt know who jkname was.' It had a cute explanation for its duplicity too: I get the impression this shitbird keeps all the poo poo people 'donate' to it. If you arent familiar with Saint Olivia, have a look at its website: http://stolivia.com/ hakimashou fucked around with this message at 11:03 on Sep 8, 2014 |

and what did jkname get banned for? as far as he or anyone else can tell, for having a dedicated alt account he kept in our fleet base all the time, so he could easily send invites to people in NoP PS. free jkname

it mailed me back what i suppose is all the stuff i gave it, though there is no telling whether it just purchased replacements on the exchange. the stuff in question was a large number of assorted mk xi AP beam arrays and elachi beam arrays and assorted colored winter jackets. I have no way of knowing whether the items i 'donated' are the same ones i got back, or just the ones it didnt have time to sell on the exchange, or replacements for the ones it did to save face. nevertheless, the fact it took days, and a big poo poo fit in public, to find out it had 'changed its mind' about giving away my donations as per our agreement, is not something easy to excuse.

I am also convinced he knows more about sto than any other person. He and his wife were on something like 16 hours a day every day i've ever been on sto. His absence is a hole i feel every day.
