When you order groceries online, the supermarket will occasionally be out of stock of some items, so they'll send you a substitute item which is as close as possible to the one you ordered.

"The Two Oddities." New menu item from Burger King Japan. The buns and cheese are made with bamboo charcoal, the sauce with squid ink.

Black food tends to look pretty awful, but I'd at least try them. Squid ink sauces can be good, though they do tend to be bitter. (And I just realized I set myself up for a fast food racist joke. Oh well.)

And remember that these are the plastic burgers they use in the ads. The actual food is going to look much worse.

In the US, if you advertise a food, you have to use the actual food in the ad. Granted, they do a whole bunch of weird poo poo to it, but it IS the actual food. Though yeah, the food you order will still never look as good as the picture:

As said, they don't use plastic burgers but they do make it look as good as possible. Examples of stuff they'll do: - Go through dozens of packs of buns to find the "perfect" one - Half cook the meat so it still looks juicy and doesn't shrink - Load all the toppings on one side so that you can see them through the bun - Use way more toppings than you'd normally get ect. Now imagine being an actor in a commercial that has to pretend to eat that monster.

One aspect of food advertising is that it has to display everything you get in the item, so it's why you have sauce and slivers of onion peeking out.
