Nobody should be tricked or forced into doing something like UESF, and you shouldn't get berated for passing it by. The willingness to seek that out, for its own sake, is a quality born, not imposed.

I haven't yet ventured into the foundry missions. Considering pubbie bios and the way some of them behave, I'm not sure I want to. Do people use foundry missions for dil farming or is that a Cryptic no-no?

Some foundry missions are ok, I often do the ground accolade grinders. If you set up your boffs right, you can go afk while they clear up. There's still a few which reward dil. Pick up Investigate Officer Reports from your list of available missions before doing a foundry mission, you'll get more dil from completing that.

I, and plenty of other fellow veterans of it, encourage people to do the UESF because lately we have too many people playing this game the exact way the pubbie menace does: comfortably sheltered from the greater community and occassionally space ship sperging when not behaving as hermits would. Plus, as Nbreeki said, forge them in the hottest fire right at the start and they're ready for anything from then on out. In a way we should thank the UESF, they've played a big part in why we can usually drum up 5 goons to crash an RP event, hose ERPers, or mess with Xean's head instead of just 1-2 while the rest keep sperging about lockboxes or builds.

The sci ship suffers the worst, with the hexagon deflector and the out-of-place point on the front. The Eclipse at least looks like the angles work with the design, the sci has sharp angles and points on a circular ship. MikeJF fucked around with this message at 10:38 on Sep 16, 2014 |

Aleth posted:All I see with those sharp, angular lines are low poly models, even though they're not. If you didn't notice, the Scryer there has the alternate hull with the donut hole filled in. It's a shame nobody will ever fly it since it's a science vessel without sensor analysis for some goddamn reason, and the commander intel slot's shared with the science slot, removing the only possible benefit of a sciboat. Personally, I like the looks. Not really something I'd want to see emulated on every Fed boat, but for their specific concept it works pretty well. But I've always had a soft spot for some of the derpier Cryptic designs. The main problem they have is there's always some element that feels out of place... the protruding deflector on the Avenger, the thin nacelles on the Odyssey, the hexagonal deflector on the Scryer there (which would even be fine if the corners were at the side rather than the top), and so on.

I think the Scryer's deflector might look a bit better in motion or from a different angle where you can see that it's actually up on a short pylon that merges into the lower corner. I kinda wish there was a two-nacelle option for the Eclipse, but I doubt it. On an entirely different note, I really wish this game had a 'cinematic mode' like Sins of a Solar Empire that flicks off all the UI elements like shield circles and symbol popups on your ships for pretty Trek screenshot taking. Or even better, just a 'cinematic screenshot' button. MikeJF fucked around with this message at 10:59 on Sep 16, 2014 |

There's a few things that help there. PrintScrn Screenshots don't include the UI by default, but you can also do "/screenshot <name>" to take an uncompressed .tga. Sadly I think you need to turn off the shield angles and stuff manually in the configs to not have those show up though. You can also do "/renderscale 2" to make the game render frames at twice the screen resolution, though this is generally at unplayable speeds (especially if you pick a number above 2) and is really only useful for screenshots. And you can do "/setregionfov <"space" or "ground"> <number>" to change the FOV. By default it's a kind of crappy 55 degrees, but for screenshotting you can kick it down to 20-30 and get way more dramatic angles.

Oh man, tighter FOVs makes small escorts feel so much more small escorty. Neat trick, thanks.

Sounds a bit like NWO's. Shove dilithium into item, shove zen store thing in to do it faster with better results, get higher tier item. It's pretty bullshit but we all saw it coming, the only real complaint I have is that the random chance for improvement (and obviously you won't get to pick mods) means all that expensive poo poo you have now has a good chance of being loaded up with DMG or something equally useless meaning you have to buy the item again and upgrade it again and have a random chance to get what you want. Basically the dil sink bullshit of the crafting system but now forcefully expanded to all gear. Eh. The more NWO leaks into STO, the less I like the game. NWO was crippled by that bullshit.

Yeah it's the utterly lovely Neverwinter Online upgrade system that is explicitly designed to clog up your inventory and eat up your dil and zen. And they coupled it to the redone crafting system which is itself an even grindier version of the NWO crafting system. I won't be surprised if any new missions don't have scaling rewards anymore and you'll be stuck with low tier gear you have to upgrade at the cost of hundreds of thousands of dil.
