I just had the privilege of seeing Vader perform live in Krakow. Man those guys play a loving good set. I can die happy now.

I remember thinking when I was younger that it'd be great if GWAR outlasted KISS (I really hate KISS, mainly because Gene is loving loathsome), but if everyone involved is being treated like shot, gently caress it.

So, Johan Hegg appears in the "lead role" in Audrey Horne's new music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBNxQWfx8gw And my cheeks hurt from laughing at all the TRVE METVL FANS crying foul because hurr blurr they can't respect Hegg anymore for appearing on this and not being a viking and whatever. "He has sold out! Why Johan, why?!" *Meanwhile at Metal Blade Records* I wonder if those people know about Audrey Horne's guitarist, who also plays in Enslaved. (I also wonder if they know about Enslaved.)

Yeah, it really is. The chorus and the Thin Lizzy-esque twin guitar riff have been stuck in my head for a couple days now and I don't even mind because it's just such a great, feelgood song. Looking forward to the album, their previous one was also really drat good. But, see, to those people it simply can't be good music because it's all SHALLOW and poo poo, and isn't about glorious viking heroes striking down weaklings in the name of Thor. It's poppy, therefore it can only possibly be poo poo. They're heartbroken that instead of a mighty berserker Johan Hegg has turned out to be just a regular guy who likes to have a good time.

Pretty much he only other "serious" band who had a similar drum sound around the same time was Lamb of God on their first album, which was more likely than not a product of Steve Austin's production than anything the band thought of themselves. In all honestly, Rime of the Ancient Mariner is a fantastic song, one of the best of the 80s imo. Not sure how well that fits what you're looking for, though.

Is Mr.Perfect the giant 10 foot tall alien for the finale? Here in Winnipeg that thing collapsed and the slave inside was freaking out because I think he was suffocating. Maybe she was kicked for that failing at other shows? It seemed too ambitious. Gonna check your doc when I get home from work! Yeah I gave it a couple of listens and I really dig it. It's got the perfect amount of Slaughter of the Soul-style riffing mixed in with elements of their older sound. Really pumped for this album.

Detective Thompson posted:Hey, recommend some metal songs/albums about the sea aside from Mastodon's Leviathan and The Ocean's Pelagial. In Mourning's 3rd album, The Weight of Oceans, is the story of a man trying to conquer his fear of the ocean, though I think "the ocean" is a metaphor for some other unspecified struggle. It's loving great. One of my favourite prog/melodeath albums that's come out in the last few years. Also I think Vintersorg's "Orkan" is a water themed album.

Detective Thompson posted:Hey, recommend some metal songs/albums about the sea aside from Mastodon's Leviathan and The Ocean's Pelagial. gently caress it, we haven't had Amon Amarth chat in a while. The last track on Twilight of the Thunder God, Embrace of the Endless Ocean, is about a slave who earns is freedom, gets on a ship to finally go home, and then the ship sinks and he drowns. Also the title track is about Thor fighting a giant sea serpent, so that sort of counts. Gojira has a bunch of songs about the ocean (and how humanity is killing it). Toxic Garbage Island is a good one. If you're into Doom, The Divinity of Oceans by Ahab is pretty cool. Edit: Also the In Mourning album Defiant Sally mentioned is indeed excellent.

I enjoy this song unironically. I have no idea what happened in the show after this and everything else is kinda hit and miss, but this song is solid and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise. I'd say The Coast Explodes by Mammatus is worth a listen for water metal. The Ocean's Precambrian is probably more watery than Pelagial to me, but that's because The Great Blue Cold does, in fact, Reign.
