Whenever I go to see my brother we take the multipla and park it in front of his house, because the looks upset him so much. I can see why someone would choose a soul or xb, is what I'm saying.

An ex-lady friend just texted me because her 97 Explorer just overheated and died in the middle of rush hour. Her dad said that you are supposed to pour water on an engine when it overheats to cool it down, so she bought a gallon of water, popped the hood, and dumped it on the engine. Notice I said ex-lady friend. Amazing how car dumb the general population is. Edit: Just two weeks ago I said she should sell the thing while it still runs since it's at 205k miles and probably won't make it much longer without a pretty expensive problem. I said the same thing to my brother months before his 02 Outback blew a head gasket. Moral of the story: LISTEN TO YOUR CAR GUY FRIENDS. Did she die or did dumping a gallon of water on a hot engine make her grow a penis?

I would guess that by the time she walked to a store to get a gallon of water and walked back, the engine had cooled enough that it didn't crack anything. Still stupid though. Unless she had a gallon of water in the trunk for the eventuality.

I ran across a coworker on the side of the road the other day. Car had died out of nowhere, his limited english told me it was "too hot". The overflow was empty, but I didn't hear anything odd. I jumped in, turned on the key, and the temp gauge was sitting right at 1/3. Wouldn't turn over... until I put it in park, then it fired right up. Gauge was at the same mark when he pulled back into the parking lot at work (half a mile down the road), but it was boiling and spitting rusty water out of the overflow. I was amazed it hasn't dropped a valve yet (this is the 3rd time it's died from overheating in the past month), but apparently all of the Contours got a Zetec engine; I assumed it was the CVH.

It happened on Sunset Blvd in the middle of Los Angeles. She couldn't have been more than a few blocks from a gas station or 7-11. She did say a huge blast of steam came off the engine, so it was definitely still pretty hot. Obviously the exhaust manifolds.

I couldn't get a picture but yesterday I saw an EA or EB Ford Falcon with a set of correct or perhaps slightly larger diameter mud tyres on it and a worklight on the back. I hope these people spend their time thrashing it mercilessly around the bush. Awesome thing to do to a terrible car. Only thing better is landfill.

Being fully-prepared for everything is for going offroad or into the wilderness. Use AAA if poo poo happens in a city where poo poo isn't going down, your life will be easier and there's no street cred to gain changing a tire on the side of a busy road.

I'd rather change a transmission than a tire on the side of the road, at least then I'm under the truck instead of between it and the lane-wandering retards texting in the right lane. I've seen two of them literally centered on the white solid line (well, mostly, wandering a few feet to each side) in the last day. That's instant death and/or fireball when they plow into you and sideswipe your broken down car at 65.

I once came across a guy changing a tire in the middle of a 3 lame highway. It was in a spot with no shoulder but he could have driven about 500ft to an offramp. Lots of traffic around him doing 80-100km/h.
