License to Kill was a gritty reboot 20 years before its time. All the complaints about Dalton's Bond seem to have little to do with Dalton himself and more to do with the franchise being in a neither-here-nor-there state at the time. Should've given Bond a Mauser.

If I remember right, another thing that Dalton had going against his Bond career was that Pierce Bronsnan was the guy everyone wanted as Bond at the time but he couldn't do it cuz of some contact.

This is getting really off track but just imagining Dalton saying "No. For me." gives me an erection.

Brosnan always struck me as the guy tailor-made to play the 80s version of a franchise where everyone's hair is 3 inches longer in the back because it's the 80s.

Don't expect massive surprises (although there are some great ones) but it's a really fun show, done to super high period standards.

I wasn't expecting much but it ended up being just my kind of weird and I was hooked from the get-go. It's kind of hard to recommend without specifically knowing what you like, and even then it just kind of depends on whether or not some things will bug you. I have a friend who also loved it, but another one that I thought would dig it never really got into it because it was just a bit too cheesy/goofy for him.

If you've spent any part of your life being goth as gently caress, or love trashy Victorian horror stories, you'll love it. The makers of this show obviously have a lot of love for the pulpy source material and even at its cheesiest, everyone involved brings their A game. Well, maybe Billie Piper's bringing her C+ game but it's still pretty great. If you'd roll your eyes at spiders pouring out of tarot decks, then maybe give it a miss.

It's funny for me it was the violins I'm a huge sucker for violins in anything. By episode 4ish I found I was enjoying more of the show and it kept growing on me from there.

Jerusalem posted:I agree he should just watch both, but in my opinion The Living Daylights is the superior of the two films. License to Kill tried something different and a little more personal for Bond though. Yeah, The Living Daylights was pretty good, despite having one of the goofiest car chases ever. License to Kill was like watching an extended A-Team episode, and I gave up on it halfway through. Dalton doesn't deserve all the flak he gets for his Bond. He's perfectly serviceable, but the material is a drag.

But clearly Van Helsing was a name, not a person in the show. There's no reason to keep him as everyone else was solving the vampire problem quite well without him. It IS kinda messed up that Van Helsing survives monster & mayhem for decades but finally falls to a band member of Fallout Boy.

Eva Green is absurdly good in this. If it wasn't such a jampacked year for Emmys she would win.

Just binge watched the show, was great fun. Dorian Grey was a bit of a twat though O: Too bad Proteus was killed so fast, would ve liked to see him a bit more, making his eventual departure maybe a bit more impactful. And i just love listening to Dr. Frankenstein, he truely has some great lines.

I recently watched the entire show in one day as well, had a blast. After 1st episode: "Hey this seems pretty cool" After 2nd episode: "HOLY poo poo this show is the loving best" It was the seance scene that sold it for me, and the whole Proteus shocker was just a cherry on top. I just love the shameless melodrama in the show, and the writing and acting really is 1st class. Yeah it's cheesy, but not like the quirky happy-go-lucky adventure fluff I was expecting (went in totally blind except for the premise of "Victorian London, supernatural shenanigans"). Like, instead of some cheese flavoured nachos this show is like very fine expensive cheese, eaten by the handful atop some crackers and flushed down with fine Merlot drank straight from the bottle and spilling half on your chest. Can't wait for season 2. Nordick fucked around with this message at 03:29 on Sep 26, 2014 |

Yeah, Eva Green was REALLY doing an excellent job. Everyone except for emo Frankenstein's Monster was pretty cool. Even Dorian Grey's character, once I got what they were going for with him, was pretty good.

I mean, I get it, but it's not that compelling. Actor's pretty though.

Instead of making him be Dorian Gray, and all the coolness/conflict therein, they've made him a vampire from an Anne Rice book without actually being a vampire. It's not ideal for a character like that, but it lets me temper my expectations.
