Also pretty sure that the writer/artist for Moon Over June is fairly nice, and not a weird defensive hypocrite rear end in a top hat.

I'm not missing sleep over it, but I find it very juvenile. However acting juvenile and getting into arguments is often par for the webcomics course

Nuns with Guns posted:Didn't he call newspaper comics dying fogeys a few months back? Is he trying to neg them or something? Scott Kurtz's deal has always been fairly simple. He really, really wanted to make newspaper comics--they were a "real" job, unlike webcomics. Not to mention, he grew up reading print comics, these were the people and the style he was basing off of. Of course, it became immediately evident that print cartoonists were both a highly insular group and loving terrified of webcomics, or, at least, dismissive of the strange and new. So he wasn't going to get in. He pulls some gimmicks to try to get into the club, which all flop, so he basically cuts ties, spites print, embraces webcomics. Coincidentally, around this time, Penny Arcade explodes, everyone admits print is hosed, webcomics start making money, and Scott's in just the right place to reap a windfall from being one of the early ones in. It's still all about legitimacy, though. Webcomics are evolving from where they were in PVP's heyday, and Scott's not exactly on the cutting edge. Getting in good with the old guard of print makes him the Elder Statesman of webcomics, which is a dumb goal, but was all the rage back in the day. Speaking of, anyone heard anything from Scott McCloud?

It's so loving slow and just not funny. It just drags on and on. Story beats that should take a week take months. Table Titans is alright when I remember it exists and I enjoy Camp Weedontwantcha maybe because it's only PA hosted and that's about as much creative input as they have.

A big flaming stink posted:huh. something is actually happening in QC for once. If by something you mean (PS Big Finn is Jeph ) I don't hate QC, bland as it is, because sometimes that's what I'm in the mood for, but recent developments particularly make it feel like I'm watching Jeph play with his dolls, or like the comic has turned into fanfic of itself. Out of curiosity, are there any slice-of-life comics that meet this thread's standards for artistic integrity? It seems like the kind of story mode that's particularly suited to going nowhere fast in terms of both plot and art direction, I'd be interested to see the result of someone responding to the common criticisms of the format. Phylodox posted:I just know that my wife said that all the characters look like they have raw, gaping holes where their noses should be and now I can't unsee it. Can anyone explain to me the internet art convention that is cheeto noses, because I have no idea where it came from and it seems like an odd thing for so many people to pick up. Is it just because noses are hard?
