Monkey puns are so hard to come by. I tried making a monkey themed Blood Bowl team a while back and it's just so difficult. It's a shame it's so hard because the Jammers are my favorite faction.

If you're looking for a domestic terrorist, there's Chimpanzy McVeigh. The only other even reasonable one I can think of is Mandy Billiams, a mandrill pop singer originally from a 1950's juncture. Perfect for if your game is set in Pleasantville.

There's only one thing in the mountains that leaves a track like this. The creature of legend that roams the Timberline. My people named him Sasquatch. You call him... Bigfoot.
I imagine the fight scenes thing is less "Fights can happen in places and more "IF you're stuck for stunt ideas in <place> here are some things you can do." They had a whole book of that before, so apparently there's demand.

Said book also included a writeup for giant frozen swordfish used as a weapon, IIRC.

I have switched to ebooks for everything except big rpgs. I am a page flipper, and the physical books do that better.

For novels and lighter games? Fine. But for this? Hardcover.

Yeah, for me the matter of "digital elfgames versus hardcopy" is purely one of convenience and space. Having hauled a not even all that comparatively big collection of RPGs through three changes of residence I finally decided that I could do without having to deal with that ever again. I'm not down on books or some "print is dead!" wonk but I can't deny that wrangling a flash drive and a laptop is a hell of a lot easier than a dozen liquor boxes full of textbooks.

Part of me thinks it so you can run the adventure as :krad: in Feng Shui, then show the pathfinder version to people and let them see how d20 based systems aren't the end all be all of RPGs. "Wasn't that fun? Now here is the same adventure in pathfinder, think you could've had that kind of fun using this?"

I am, however, very biased against D&D and its branches. :v:

No idea what Burning Shaolin is but the stretch-goal does say "dual-statted" and "converted from OGL to Pathfinder" so I am 99% sure that this is an old FS1 adventure that also had D&D 3.x rules, and they're just updating those at the same time as they're updating it from FS1 to FS2.

That's exactly what it is. It came out during 3.0. From Atlas' site:

quote:

Complete rules for playing the scenario with either an existing 6th- to 8th-level OGL group, or beginning Feng Shui characters.
New OGL rules for fast-paced action movie-style combat: "Faceless Horde" rules provide large groups of opponents for the heroes to bowl quickly through, in large part to show off how buff the PCs are; the wuxia combat rules let OGL characters defy gravity and perform the stunts Feng Shui is known for.
New OGL goodies: Mushroom Men that explode when mistreated, Demon Monks, poisonous Demon Ichor, the rod of lingering agony, and wondrous flying coffins powered by those imprisoned within. Kung Fu butt kicking action!

So I'm going through the rulebook and playing Break The Game, and here's what I've found:
  • Any character who starts with Martial Arts schticks (but ideally a Sifu or Old Master) can take Blunt The Crane's Beak and Thwart The Dragon, and then as long as the rest of the party plays Everyone Cluster Around Kung-Fu Guy, they are effectively immortal because Thwart The Dragon's cost is negligible (2 shots is nothing). Bonus points if someone else is a Bodyguard, just so they have a backup for when you just have the bad guys get smart and concentrate all their attacks on Kung-Fu Guy, or a Sorceror can just use Altruistic Switcheroo.
  • If you have Flesh Wound, you can just spam it incessantly -- sure, you'll drop your Toughness to 0 sooner than later, but it won't matter because you never take any Wound Points.
  • A Transformed Monkey will need to Awesome Up twice to pull this one off because Sword isn't one of the Martial Arts paths that Transformed Animals can start with, but: combining Just A Scratch with Lethal Strike lets you down every single featured foe in a fight as soon as you hit Sequence 3 at no cost, because the Monkey will still be Up and just ignore all the Marks of Death they just took.
Anyone wanna check me and see if I missed something?

Also, can someone explain to me what Ghost Sense is for? I honestly do not get it. And doesn't Cure Disease blow up a lot of melodramatic hooks, since "oh no my loved one has [whatever disease] and needs [an operation or some miracle or whatever]" can be solved with a one-time expenditure of 3 Magic. That's... not much.

edit: I sent them in, and like fifteen minutes later got an e-mail back saying thanks and that they were going in "the Big File". So when the release product comes out and you can't be a Sorceror/Old Master/Transformed Monkey trio that kills everybody and never takes any wound points for it, I did that.

So listening to KARTAS and listening to the One Shot episodes of Feng Shui and Feng Shui 2 really sold me on this game so I ended up backing at the 140 level cause I wanted the physical book the gm screen and those archetype sheets.

But after the last few pages of discussion about customization has me thinking about it cause that's a fair amount of money for me to drop. Though just thinking about the One Shot game they took the sorcerer and turned it into am magical girl so I don't really think they'll be a problem with talioring the characters to how you would like. Though I was a little surprised they didn't copy the way Apocalypse World does their playbooks but that might be cause I'm just really hyped for Spirit of 77.

But I still have to finish reading the advanced rules but I've already got an idea for a trilogy of sessions set in 1986 San Francisco, 1994 New York and possibly 2015 Hong Kong. Nothing really touching on the games meta plot just yet but a series of cool action movies abs when I start thinking about that all my misgivings seem to float away.

Also chimp pun names are awesome.

In FS1 the "Scrappy Kid" archetype could take the Sorcery skill instead of Kung Fu, and the current One Shots is using characters from when they first played it. So it kinda got grandfathered in.

(Tommy Euphrates is the best character)

As for customization...I think that with a game like FS, part of the buy-in is "you're all playing action movie stereotypes". FS isn't a game about large-scale customization like, say, D&D or Fate.

That being said, I doubt that swapping shticks around for starting characters won't really be a game-destroying hassle.

I'd rather they make a well-designed, balanced game with no customisation and a shtick system that makes it incredibly easy to customise archetypes/"design" your own by mashing a bunch of shticks together, than try to provide D&D-style customisation options and make the game less easy to balance and more complicated to make a character for, honestly.

I'm good with just swapping Shticks around. Messing with stats seems like a big step on the road to minmaxing.
