It's the thing from having the full Elachi set equipped-- you have a 5% chance per charge orbiting your ship to reflect 50% of an incoming energy weapon's attack in the form of disruptor damage, with 100% shield penetration.

You get three charges if you're using it on a normal ship and six if you're using it on an Elachi ship. Using it on an Elachi ship also increases the chance to reflect to 10% per charge instead of one.

Yeah, it's pretty fun. The only real annoyance is the weapons aren't very... exciting. The torpedo's alright (at least now that you can upgrade it) but doesn't really have anything special, but the cannon's just a single cannon. Hits hard as those go, but doesn't work with a beamboat and is still a lot weaker than DHCs for an escort.

There's no official Cardassian race option, though I think you can get pretty close by choosing alien and customizing it. However if your fantasies involve bad erotic RP with middle-aged men pretending to be white skinned Orion women, then I've got some great news for you!

Clicky.

It has a list of all the chains on that page at least and if you go into the Current Map assignments page you can look up an individual assignment which will show you where it can be found, e.g. Exchange Prisoners with Dominion.

Are the Department head missions unaffected by map, like the personal missions?

Also as a Romulan, I never seem to have gotten my commander level ship after the promotion quest. Anyone know if that's normal?

Sure, pick one at the tailor. You may have to fiddle with the top-most setting from the drop down menu at the tailor.

Once you have access to New Romulus (after Neutral No More, I think) and if you've done all your other promotion missions, it should be there.

The expansion seems iffy, though I THINK they pulled back on some of the worst ideas. At least some of the new ships look neat at least, but the upgrade system (for gear and ships) might be very bad if you like alts or are new.

On the other hand it's always fun cruising around as a capital ship and just blowing poo poo up so  (why is there no Battlefleet Gothic video game drat it? :argh:)

Honestly, everything except the upgrade system is alright. Even the upgrade system's... expensive but fine, as long as you don't get suckered in by the small charge per upgrade item and instead look at it like it's basically buying the gear again. The real bullshit mostly comes in when you're spending tens to hundreds of thousands of dilithium trying to get quality upgrades, or if you spend that upgrading weapons and get poo poo mods.

But it's not like this game has ever been hard, so just getting to MkXIV very rare is probably fine. :effort:

As I see it, this has been true for a while; STO has steadily gotten better and for the most part each round of new content has been an improvement over the previous.

Of course, it's still Cryptic so it's also a buggy mess, but you just have to take things like your Borg boff talking with Satra's voice in the Romulan starting missions and embrace it. :allears:

That really is the worst. She's all smug about how she could do it better, but you never get an option to let her do it. Or throw her head first at the forcefield. Or beam her into space.

I like the item upgrade system.

My PvP build has always been a torp Brel. I only need to upgrade 3 weapons for this. Two photon torps and the enhanced bio molecular photon torp.

I logged in the other day for the first time I a couple weeks and noticed the upgrade system was live. Bough some stuff on the exchange, spent some dil, and before long I had mk 13 ultra rare photons and bio molecular. My crtD3 photon went to crtD4, and my acc3 went to acc3 crtd1. Nice!

Noticed I could upgrade my universal consoles too, so I did that. I have millions of refined dil from contraband, and billions of EC so I didn't even really pay attention to the cost. I have lv20 torp crafting so I could make all the upgrade pieces for both my torps and my uni consoles myself.

Went into Kerrat and melted some people, it was fun!

Here's what I really like about it though. For the most part, the only thing I've really enjoyed doing in STO is being a Ferengi and accumulating a fortune. Now there's something worth spending on.

I'm lucky that I only like the torpedo Brel, since it means I have relatively few things I'll need to fast track to epic level to be fully effective. Most ships will need to upgrade more than 2 or 3 weapons.

A lot of the stuff I use on my Brel to maximize torp damage, photon damage and crit is set based, so it doesn't need to be upgraded, since all that matters is the set bonus. Torp Brel doesn't use shields, and is a very strict glass cannon, so I don't need to worry about upgrading any defensive stuff.

I guess I'm just happy that I am well positioned to take advantage of a change that creates a gear gap and finally allows for an unfair advantage in PvP, which is really the whole idea of PvP in my view.

Any clue as to when the next Dil weekend might happen? I've got one alt that just reached Romulan T5, and four other working their way there with the mark boxes from the mirror event. Would be nice to get that sweet sweet pile of Dilithium with 50% on five characters.

The event calendar on Tribble shows a dil weekend October 23-27. But that's subject to change until it shows on the calendar on Holodeck.
