Finally getting around to spending a bunch of birthday money on stuff I don't actually need. The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For, re-reading Fun Home made me remember how much I liked Bechdel's early work too. Conversation of Shadows, Yoon Ha Lee is probably my favorite new SF author. I've had this as an ebook for a while but I want it on paper. You can read "Ghostweight" for free here and it's a good introduction to her style and subjects. Logitech M705, to replace the Intellimouse Explorer v3 that finally died after about ten years. UE Mini Boom, so I can listen to music while doing housework without getting my earphones caught on everything. "Brill Bruisers" by the New Pornographers, I think this is a lot better than "Together" was and I've been enjoying it a great deal. I want it on an actual CD because I'm old.

To replace my old original Kickstarter one which I'll give to my dad. Amazon had it in stock for not an insane rip off price Random comics These three I bought a bit ago and had them all signed at an event, Hanselmann actually pulled out part of his wig and put it in my book.

loving amazing food in Reykjavik, Iceland. A bowl of lobster soup at the Sea Baron. The spicy burger at Kex. An "epic" sized hamburger and about a quarter of my girlfriend's lamb steak at Restaurant 73. Sweet jesus. In the words of Dr. Hibbert, "If I was on death row, I'd say bring on the lethal injection."

A tiny-but-super-critical piece in my old Cuisinart food processor broke, and getting the piece would have been $30. This food processor was $28, and apparently is even better than my old one. Fuggin Cuisinart.

We're probably going to come back in a few years, I'll make a note of 3 Frakkar, hopefully it'll still be around then.

A gym bag: Ogio Crunch. One of the side pockets has an oversized lining that extends inside the bag itself, called a shoe tunnel. My shoes fit in there while still being kept separate from the rest of the bag and without making the bag bulge out. Also has enough pockets that I can put all my gym stuff in there, including a change of clothes and all the miscellany like chalk, wrist wraps, etc. With the weather here in New England slated to get much worse, I'll probably have to start changing and showering at the gym, so a bag was a necessity. Apropos wrist wraps, just picked these babies up: Harbinger Red Line. Very comfortable, only about on Amazon. 'Bout to put down a tuition deposit at the school that's hopefully gonna turn me into a physical therapy assistant.

Josh Lyman posted:They do that? I thought they were just supposed to produce a more similar eyeball-to-screen distance on the edge vs. center of the TV. In any case, curved monitors make sense because there's a substantial percentage difference in distance from the center to the edge of a 34" display. If you have more than 1-2 person watching curved is worse than non-curved, as people sit then outside the center. Stupid gimmick.

We got one in the office and nobody could tell the difference. We got it set up last night and the picture is actually incredible. The amount of realism and depth is something I have never seen in a TV (apart from when we viewed it in the store). The wife sits off to the right a little with no affect on the picture at all, viewing angle is just as good as my last Samsung 50" plasma. You can't even tell its curved when viewing which is the whole point, it add depth. Really happy with it, especially the native 4k upscaling. Fozaldo has a new favorite as of 09:00 on Oct 14, 2014 |
