So question, why is Elsa trying to gently caress up her headlining act? I get she's jelly and all but drat. Also, kinda hating Angela Basset's character already because "poofs" are lower than freaks. A. Beaverhausen fucked around with this message at 00:47 on Oct 17, 2014 |

Periodiko posted:You think the writers of American Horror Story care more about the plot than exploring the show's themes? Well, that theme doesn't make sense. These "freaks" are reviled to the point that people puke when they see Siamese twins that are otherwise beautiful, yet they don't flinch when they see a monstrous 7 foot tall filthy clown that's got a hosed up mouth and is wearing another person's scalp on his head? That theme is inconsistent, if anything. That's this shows biggest flaw, inconsistently. It's still great entertainment, but don't fool yourself that there are deep underlying clever plot lines or anything.

Did anyone else think Meep looked an awful lot like the Infantata from S1? I dunno if it was an intentional callback or anything, but he looked creepy as gently caress to me, especially in the first episode when they introduced him.

I havent watched this season yet because I heard coven was so bad, but Im curious: Did the shows serialized format allow it to start with clean slate? Basically, is there a noticeable change in quality this season?

So far it is better, but Coven started out pretty good in my opinion. Ending was ok too, the middle was what sucked.

Because they mentioned Pepper by name in the diner scene I will be pretty stoked if they have her eventually get sent away to an asylum at some point.

This anachronistic music is interesting and plot driven, now if we can only find a way to shoehorn in some Rhianna. Also, I liked Coven. I like this one too, but the double head CGI can look really lovely at times.

I feel like AHS is a show best watched 90% for the spectacle, 10% for everything else. The individual scenes and situations are great but the overarching plot and character arcs leave much to be desired. That being said, I love this show so I think it succeeds wonderfully on that point.

It's pretty poo poo yeah, but at least Paulson's acting of the two roles side by side is awesome. She's actually my favorite talent on the show besides Bates. Angela Bassett was great in Coven, but not buying her character yet here.

It's possible, but I think Murphy said that she and Salty grew up in the same orphanage, which would suggest this is an alternate reality, given that Asylum Pepper was accused of killing her sister's baby. Unless Pepper is eventually adopted by someone post-Freak Show.

I think the way it ended was that she revealed after the aliens altered her intelligence that her sister and brother-in-law framed her for the murder. I don't remember why, maybe just to get rid of her and the baby in one fell swoop? Yeah, I think people are reaching for plot holes so far, it's pretty easy to give the benefit of the doubt to a few of the situations - the guy doesn't recognize Twisty's standing in the place of a mannequin because he's internally freaking out about the trail of blood he's following, Dandy's mom's judgment is probably about where'd you expect from someone living in a weird Mother-Son take on the What Ever Happened to Baby Jane mansion, etc. The only thing that's really bugged me so far is Jimmy's cognitive dissonance between being part of opium orgies with the rest of the staff and grandstanding about how he's just like everyone else - if they made the really tall woman the mouthpiece of that message I could buy it because I don't remember her being in the video and she was like the only one to follow basic social norms in the diner scene.

I could see Jimmy going off on her, particularly when lamenting about Del, because neither are really "freaks" the way he is. He's just a big guy and she's just tall. They don't necessarily draw attention, and scorn, like the rest.

I would agree, but I'm still not sure if Eve is Trans in the show or do we just ignore that and see the character portrayed, because it was pretty obvious she was Trans from her first line onward.

According to Ryan Murphy, the first two episodes have clues about next season, and it's not outer space. Any ideas? The only thing that really jumped out at me was the robot, but I doubt that means anything. You guys are way better at this than I am.... thoughts?

Maybe something to do with theater? I only watched each episode once, but I'm going off Dandy's opera glasses from episode 1 and his bizarro puppet show from episode 2. Or maybe it'll be American Horror Story: Sex Show.

Mind you this is the 1950s, were "serial clown killers" a thing back then? Surely now we see this and think, he's a killer, but put in the mindset of an upper class white woman in the 50s maybe something is different enough that it makes sense. For all the faults this show has, and trust me I recognize them, I still applaud this show for taking the risks that it does. I like the uniqueness of the show and characters, and it's just enough to keep me entertained. I like that they keep each season different with a new story.

It's so weird that this is set in Jupiter. My family lives there. That place has no spanish moss, and I am annoyed that they made it seem like it had it. It doesn't. Jupiter is pretty far south. Maybe there is an outer space theme though for next season. I'm really, really missing Lily Rabe this season. It's like a phantom pain. I want her being all fabulous and showing up.
