I will buy a cappuccino and a delicious German pastry to nurse my loving headache, then I will peruse the market and buy whatever fancy cheeses, fresh breads, or straight-off-the-farm meats I so choose. When my headache has sufficiently subsided, I will pack my family into my German car, spin a wheel full of foreign countries all within a four hour drive of me, and drive to whichever one the dial lands on. Okay Europe Army guys I am flying to Garmisch for 5 weeks. What do you guys suggest I spend my weekends doing. I plan on getting some skiing and snowboarding in, but other than that I have no idea what to do. I am interested in historical sites etc. and I know there are a bunch just not sure which ones are convenient from that area. Appreciate any feedback.

Go up to Munich, drink all the beer and bang all the hoes. There's plenty of castles and old poo poo to check out within an hour or two of Garmisch. Also check out Berchtesgaden if you feel like getting your National Socialism on. Rent a car from Sixt and explore the area.

My schizophrenic sociopath CO is under investigation for "demoralizing comments" made in formation in Afghanistan. The investigation was brought on by a complaint by an AGR E7 that deployed with us who is quite possibly the most useless, stupid human being I've ever met in my life and who was relieved as a PSG and is upset because he was 4 blocked on his NCOER. The full-time staff has colluded with the organic CSM to manipulate the NCOERs we signed before being REFRAD, changing the raters and the actual evaluations in the process. The moronic platoon leader I deployed with that almost shot my roommate during a blackout because he thought the Taliban cut the power to invade BAF and who refused to work the day after taking a single round 75m away from his site got bronze star license plates, was overheard on the phone demanding special treatment from the car dealership for being a BSM recipient, and faked a surgery for his daughter in order to cut out of DEMOB 5 days early to go on vacation. I'm ashamed to know and be involuntarily associated with all of these people and can't wait to loving get out.

Zugspitz, winter sports, restaurants, etc. Salzburg in Austria is just around the corner and you can get there using the German train system. Someone already mentioned Munich, but if you keep going north there's Augsburg, Regensburg, Nürnberg, Würzburg, and a bunch of well-known smaller towns like Bamberg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber. If you want to see a concentration camp, Dachau and Flossenburg aren't too far. If you don't get a rental or you want to get schlitzt while you travel, you can get a special ticket called a Bayern pass at the train station. Cost varies depending on how many people you have with you, but you can have up to 5 on one ticket for like 35-40 Euros. I think it's 20something for just one person. If you can leave the country, Vienna, Prague, Milan, and Venice are all reachable. Switzerland is a gorgeous drive.

The "real world" for attorneys of my age and experience in most metropolitan areas amounts to one of two avenues: 1) trolling pathetic bar association get-togethers trying to backstab or scavenge your way to enough paying clients in order to make a go at clearing $35k for the year or 2) competing with hundreds of other dickheads for the 3 or 4 jobs a week that pop up paying more than $35k and requiring less than 70 billable hours every week (a rare combination). Been there, hated it, not in any mood to ever go back. I didn't spend 7 years in school to be marketable at the exact same salary I was making with a high school diploma. Passing that up for drat close to $100k a year, the last true pension left in the United States, fantastic medical benefits for my family, and the accumulation in the past two years of more courtroom experience than most of my colleagues will ever see in their entire careers... if that makes me 'damaged goods' then slap a fuckin' label on me and stick me on the bottom shelf baby because I do not give a gently caress.

No, this is GARRISON ARMY SON, and all the useful combat and leadership experience in the whole goddamn world doesn't mean poo poo to the worthless rear end in a top hat driving around in a golf cart with a ruler and a list of unit phone numbers. In a few short years, a standard day will consist entirely of inventories and CTT "training" given by people who have maybe an NTC rotation under their belt and haven't even thought about that poo poo since basic, and are desperately trying to avoid getting their rear end in a top hat pulled inside out again for not treating their people like brain-damaged toddlers. I'll give you three guesses as to why the entirety of our institutional knowledge of the Gulf War was limited to a movie about George Clooney pulling paper out of a dude's rear end. So here's the deal: you stay your rear end in the land of good beer, good food, and limited oversight, by any means necessary until it's time to get out. That one weasel you know that's managed to stay there for the last decade? He's the smart one, not the rest of the gung-ho fucksticks that can't wait to get back to Golden Corral and fat hookers. He had foresight; he saw what was coming, and rode his good fortune into the sunset. If you have any sense rattling around in any part of you, you'll make it your holy mission to be like that guy.
