You’re telling me Peter Parker is ...... Spider-man!?

Aphrodite posted:

The newspaper actually says Flash disappeared during the "Crisis". We don't know if he saved the world or not. It's possible he failed, and Wells is trying to make him better for the second try.

Or its a huge easter egg for Flash comic fan Barry Allan died during the Crisis in 1985, and red skies were part of it.

That they defaulted to Doritos when they saw a triangle wasn't very surprising though.

The thread can get pretty weird about Laurel, and S2 had an extended arc where she had substance abuse problems.

Pillowfights with Dominican mothers.
I thought one of the more indicative moments of Iris' character were in the pilot, when Det. West is chastising Barry and Iris for being near that police chase. He says "you're not a cop" and she retorts "because you wouldn't let me." She clearly wanted to follow in her father's footsteps, but was prohibited from her preferred career choice; in her position I would probably have the same lackadaisical attitude toward my studies.

Man I really need to catch up, I heard she lost a bunch of weight but I just started season 2 and haven't noticed a big difference yet. That's still really weird though.

Her skin tone is also sort of a hideous orange, like she's got the early stages of whatever horrible disease turns peoples' skin that color on the Jersey shore.

Showdown in the Galaxy Era.

Somehow complaints about Laurel Lance's appearance have contaminated the Flash thread, too?

She's an attractive and capable actress. The only thing "wrong" with her was a lack of clarity for how the writers intended to use her. And as of this season, that's gone...she has a clear arc ramping up that is great.

Iris seems like great casting, actually. I just hope the writers define her in ways external to her relationships to men - Barry, her dad, or the cop boyfriend. At the moment, she's basically Mary Jane from the Raimi Spider-Man, and that pretty much means being a prop for the hero's Nice Guy man-pain.

With great payroll, comes great disappointment.

double negative posted:

Yeah, they haven't really been depicting Iris as smart or capable at all - in fact it's been so much the opposite that your annoyance is probably better directed at the show's writers.

Simply being a grad student doesn't really say much about her intelligence or capability, especially given her reliance on Barry to explain things for her and help her generate ideas. She was literally going to fabricate a quote for her article, IIRC. Also, she knows Barry really well, except she can't tell he's in love with her and in pain when she kisses on Other Guy right in front of him. Standard love triangle poo poo I know, but it doesn't do her character any favors.

I don't say this to totally blast the show - it's still a CW show and despite the sometimes cheesy lines and romantic subplots that come with that, I've found it really entertaining, but as someone who craves good black characters on TV, I've been frustrated with how they've done Iris myself. I have enjoyed the relationship between Joe and Barry, though, especially now that Joe knows what's up.

Wait, I thought Iris was a journalism student, which makes her lack of STEM knowledge not that weird. (Comics Iris is also a journalist, like Wally's wife. A lot of that going around. Shame that Batman never made a move on Summer Gleeson. They could've been so happy.)

Journalism is one of her elective classes. She had written a dissertation on something else earlier, though.

However that entire theory was shot to hell in this episode given that Harrison Wells clearly knows Simon Stagg and has had dealings with him in the past. We already knew he was a famous scientist as Harrison Wells, so he's obviously taken time to establish himself in the current era. Dealings with Stagg could have been done while he was establishing himself as Harrison Wells, and don't mean he's not a crazy future man. The theory still works.

Oh probably. My point was, I figured that Harrison Wells the man with future knowledge just came back just after the Particle Accelerator exploded, hide the real Harrison Well's body and then took over his life. This episode indicates that the Wells we are introduced has been around a while.

The best reason to being up the Crisis and the Red skies is so that people won't bitch because none of the TV show actors will play their character s in the movies.

So the movie universe can be Earth 1, TV can be Earth2 And Nolanverse can be Earth 3 etc. Gives DC something different over Marvel.
