What would you guys say are the best electronic albums of the year? For reference, I'm not big on trance or techno. Examples of electronic I love:

- M83
- Air
- Boards of Canada
- The Knife
- Flying Lotus
- Bonobo
- Bibio
- Daft Punk
- Jazztronik
- Capsule
- Tycho

I dunno, I'd love some more jazzy house. I'm huge on downtempo, ambient, and house, obviously. Not all kinds of house though, I'm particular for some reason.

What I've been listening to lately:

Josh Butler
Pwndtiac
Sophie
Goldroom

I guess I just want more of the long list above. It's been a while. I'm the only person I know who's big on electronic, so I always go to shows alone. :smith: So it's hard for me to branch out and learn new artists.

You'd probably like Glass Animals. It's not house but based on your list I think you'll dig their debut album that they put out this year.

Other electronic albums you may or may not enjoy:

Todd Terje - It's Album Time

Very synthy and 80s-esque. A lot of disco vibes.

The Young Punx - All These Things Are Gone

House album with a ton of variety but does it all very well.

You might also have some luck with Squarepusher. Maybe its not always downtempo, but its a fascinating mix of hardcore electronic and freestyle jazz with easy listening music interspersed.

Try Papalon.

Brainfeeder released this? Hearing this first track it sounds like he's doing his own spin on the low end theory stuff. Which is great, because Mr Oizo will subvert the gently caress out of a style.

And yes every time Lindsay Lowend remixes female RnB vocals is a good time.

Swire's been teasing out the new Knife Party album, I'm pretty excited to hear what they've been up to. The last album was pretty dubsteppy and I ended up not being too into it, but this November album seems to be shaping up to be really great.

Once I realized Knife Party wasn't Pendulum and I heard those weird female robot talking vocals in it I dropped 'em and never looked back. Is there anything worth listening to by Knife Party? Or was it all just a robot girl saying stuff put to generic four-on-the-floor?

Hi Thread,

I'm pretty clueless about electronic stuff outside of ambient/IDM, and was wondering whether you could help me find more stuff I'll like? I went to a club night that Modeselektor played at recently, and I'm looking for more stuff that sounds similarish to him. Particularly stuff that sounds like Blue Clouds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YHBFmMMECg.

I'm already aware of Moderat, but I only really like the instrumental stuff, as I'm not so in to Aparat's voice. I'm basically looking for dancey stuff with bass drones and then interesting stuff happening on top of that. Anything remotely like gently caress Buttons circa Tarot Sport would be very welcome too. Annoyingly I only get post-rock or more ambient stuff off their associated acts on Last.fm, and none of it really sounds like them.

(Sorry if this is the wrong electronic thread, I'm a total genre tourist here. If you think this would fit better in another thread, please point me towards it as I'll probably find some stuff I like from lurking in there too!)

Thanks!

I figure this a good a place as any to ask - I'll be in NYC for a week from this weekend, can anyone recommend some good deep house (or even tech or minimal) clubs to visit? Sydney's scene....is kind of non-existent beyond warehouse events.

In other stuff, Ole Biege released a new EP with Martin Waslewski a little while back and I've found it quite good.

I'm really excited for Abandon Ship to drop, but it seems that Rob Swire has gone a tiny bit mental with the newer material as it sounds pretty Pendulum-y in parts.

Boss Mode is basically an unused Pendulum track from Immersion until it goes into Moombahton

Is the only criteria for 'synthwave' just "retro 80s synth music made 20-30 years later"? Hearing some stuff like Kavinsky, Perturbator and Lazerhawk and the aesthetics of Hotline Miami and Drive described as synthwave, I can only think that's what it means because I can't think of a time when it was actually called that.
