I could see EVERY Amiibo being available for use in Animal Crossing. You could get a statue of that character in your house if you have the Amiibo of it.

Why would you want more stuff locked behind amiibos? Nintendo has been putting out great dlc at reasonable prices, amiibos are expensive microtransactions that are tied to physical objects. Buy an amiibo if you want a little figurine, that's it.

I think the idea is that Amiibos would be cross-game DLC and thus have wider but shallower value than regular DLC. I don't really get the hype over 'em but I'd probably have felt differently if I was 10 or more of a collector.

Until they do a Nintendo version of Skylanders, I doubt very much that Nintendo would lock actual gameplay stuff behind Amiibos. But cosmetic poo poo, like any decoration in your house in Animal Crossing, is perfect for something like Amiibos.

So our old pal Denis Dyack is back on the town and I have no idea where to even post this:

quote:

Denis Dyack, formerly of Silcon Knights, has formed a new entertainment company, Quantum Entanglement Entertainment Inc., or "QE2."

The new company will not only develop video games, but will also create movies and television programming. Dyack says this is where the future is, calling the merging of all three platforms "The Singularity."

"A lot of the television that you're seeing is really bleeding into a lot of the things that we do in video games," Dyack said. "A lot of the things that you see in film are bleeding into a lot of the things that we do in video games.

"I wanted to do something that was a lot more than just video games."

Dyack will serve as the Chief Creative Officer for QE2, but he's not alone in the venture. Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Soon-Shiong has an extensive film and television background in Canada, including his time as Deputy Executive Director, Strategy and Finance at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Chief Operating Officer Paul Rapovski has experience as a film and television producer, and as an actor and director. Rapovski was also an assistant fight coordinator for "Pacific Rim," and provided motion capture aspects for Dyack's Silicon Knights title "Too Human."

One of the first projects we'll see from QE2 will be the return of Shadow of the Eternals -- a spiritual successor to the Silicon Knights cult-classic Eternal Darkness. Dyack tried to relaunch the game a few times through crowdfunding, but the project stalled after failing to reach it's goals.

However, he said Shadow of the Eternals is actively in production now. And it won't just be a video game.

"(We're) looking at it from a film and television side," Dyack said. "We've got more going on that we're just not ready to talk about yet."

Taking a look at the current video game landscape Dyack said the gamer has more say in what they want to play. And he said a successful game isn't hardware-dependent anymore.

"It could be successful on a cell phone, it could be successful on a console, it could be successful on a PC," he said. "(It's) a combination of things gamers have wanted to see for a long time."

Silicon Knights founder who made a couple good games like Eternal Darkness by having the people with the money sit on him and make him finish them. Then he did a nearly ten year development cycle on Too Human which bombed taking his company with it. As it was circling the drain he made absurd promises like Eternal Darkness 2 being in development despite the company having something like four employees left.

To top it off the writer for Eternal Darkness, the lore-master who stood by Dyack throughout the years and was basically his number 2, was convicted and sentenced for making child pornography available this past summer.

Don't forget that he continued to use the Unreal Engine 3 source code in his games even though he no longer had the license to use it. Too Human and X-men Destiny actually had to be recalled because they were made with the stolen code.

Also, the new totally not Eternal Darkness can't even use the best mechanic from the first game because Nintendo owns the patent for the insanity system.

My favourite Dyack story is about how the X-Men Legends team had to demo a crappy unplayable level for him and his only response was to chew them out for twenty minutes because there was a grey truck in one of the scenes and grey trucks are loving stupid and they should totally paint it red, and from that moment on the team used the term "paint the truck" to refer to any of Dyack's stupid requests.

Can someone explain to me what the gently caress an Amiibo is? It's a statue that has some sort of chip in it, but...what exactly does buying one gain you? I've got Smash Bros 3DS & will be picking it up for the WiiU, have MK8 and have unlocked everything in those games already...what does buying one of these figurines do for me that isn't already in the game?

Amiibos is Smash function as a trainable AI partner that you can fight with/against, level up, pit against your friends, etc. If that doesn't sound fun to you, don't buy one.

No-one knows what they'll do in Mario Kart or any other game that supports them.

You can train your Amiibo in Smash Bros to level them up to Level 50, beyond level 9 of a regular CPU character. The character will become smarter the more you use it/train it. You can then use your Amiibo as an advanced CPU opponent in Smash Bros, or as a partner in team battles.

I think always having a local opponent around that's much harder than the normal CPU makes it worth it especially if you get one like Link or Mario. Wanting these figures to work for more than 2 or 3 games each is unrealistic though especially with the less popular figures.

I mean if they do that's great but I don't think that's what they're going for.

Edit: Do we know the msrp for these guys?

Edit 2: Yea quick Google says these things are only $13 so if I get Link and he works with at least 2 games I'm content.

Im guessing the same thing as in smash: Mario amiibo in MK8 will control a racer and be tougher than the regular AI, Link amiibo in hyrule warriors will be a co-op partner, same with Yoshi in wooly world.
Just better ais to co-op or compete against in multiplayer games.

Scroll, then. There are other posts than these.

Just got to Chapter IX on Bayonetta, and I've notice a couple things. I'd only played to Chapter V on the PS3 version, but the Wii U version feels like an entirely different game. Not to be hyperbolic, but it feels like the encounters were remixed and moved around, and I'm sure the improved framerate helps.

Also, Grace and Glory is the best part of the game so far, and after chasing down a couple Lp shards, I keep going back to that level, because man are they fun. Every level before that, it felt like I was trapped into doing whatever the game wanted, with the platform hopping boss fights, but these guys, it felt like I was playing W101 for a second. Had headphones in, and I was dodging on sound alone, had to pause I was laughing, it was so awesome.

Bayonetta owns, and you're an idiot if you haven't played it, or you have and didn't like it. W101 is still better so far, though.

I don't think I'll be picking one up, but Yoshi is probably the best one to grab. He gets in to a lot of mario games, any gamble with an ensemble cast and has his own game coming out.
