It's pretty much standard for goons in many MMO's; the cliques that migrate from game to game all attempt to be kings of the castle "because it worked so well last time", and it all ends up going to poo poo.

We're splintered all to hell and will never be a Political Force in this game (at least not in the near future) but that means we don't have to gently caress around with diplomacy at all. I think we still have the freedich deal with FC for running tradepacks, but that seems to be about it. If you are in a guild with "goon" in the name, then you are KOS at all fishing holes, so goons that love to fish have all left. No more fishing drama. Not having a goon castle means we don't need a guild bank or to channel anything to anyone, so no more drama about guild finances. We don't have huge numbers, but even with the splintering Goon Squad still has 75 people logged in right this minute. There are things going on. Some people are pirating. Some people are doing thing in Auroria. Some people are griping about Hasla. Some people are off doing their own thing. No stress anymore, just do what you want, whatever is fun for you.

The story about what happened gets more and more distorted from both parties, every time someone retells it. There needs to be some nazis or dinosaurs in it next time. Why can't people just play video games and have fun doing it?

Maybe if you have a lot of fishing boats, and are constantly running into fishing fleets. But when pirating, most just stick to using clippers, merchants, or cutters. You also have to hope you catch them at the right time, with a full hold. It's often a short trip back to safe waters as well. Pirating is fun, but it's far from profitable. If you do it with a small enough group, it may work out better money wise, but going out with a 20-50 people, you'd do better just going to Freedich or searching out popular trade routes at opportune times. It's also why goons are still running around in quest/gha gear without buffs and getting crushed when fighting people with fish on their backs. Not questioning his reasons for doing so, since I don't know/didn't pay attention to the whole story. PrepH asked why, over the span of several hours and then left eventually. Grithok confirmed that Arrg was not coming back so the remainder of that family left. I don't know if that stance changed since then and it doesn't matter to me but claiming people left and hosed over the guild because they were "impatient" is dishonest. The part about taking the guild bank is understandably lovely though and is reason enough, no reason to make up further character flaws on top of that.

So I will be very surprised if there is ever a seige in this game. The seige system seems similar to Global Agenda's AVA in that the guilds who own castles can just funnel money to an alt guild and buy-out their own bid to avoid the threat of losing. This is even easier since they make extra money off castle taxes, but hilarious in that they won't even lose gold once they "beat" their alt guild, since the pot goes to the victor. I guess it continues the libertarian utopia theme, so there's that. I'm looking forward to the pubby anger that will flow once they realize they will be screwed out of a castle yet again. Valor#1

The SOP seems to be kick first then figure it out unless you bang minors. It's happened to many people before you and its another reason why its a poo poo guild and will remain so without gutting the leadership. Splintering was the best thing to happen for everyone that left.

Just used a bunch of charcoal that I'd set aside to make a piano, plopped it down in my house and started playing the hawaii 5-0 theme. One of my neighbors who had been tending to his farm started freaking out about someone playing "bad piano" and ran inside my house and started jumping up and down on it as I played. I gave him a short concert, then did the mature thing and shut the door with him inside and logged out. I'd say it was a worthwhile investment.
