I have another question about Apple IDs. I have two IDs right now, one using an old email and one using a new email. I want to get rid of the old email address. If I do, will I lose access to that Apple ID? Presumably I can't update that Apple ID to use the same email as the other ID, right?

I had my iTunes account set to my gmail account. And an iCloud account. I've been told more than once by Apple that there is no way to combine them. I just have to remember to change my iTunes account information so it doesn't use the iCloud creds.

What secret incantations do I have to perform to get Overcast to download my podcasts, ready to listen to when I start the app? I've got background app refresh on, and allowed Overcast to use it, and I even allow cellular download yet I still have to often have to wait for podcasts to download when I start the app. It works some of the time, but not always. Help me goons.

Will they ever make Track my iPhone to track your iPhone via IMEI, man they just stole my iPhone and it was disconnected from the internet so it's gone, but would be cool in the future to get this feature in the app.

If you have Find My iPhone (and thus activation lock) turned on, the phone's value is already only as parts. "Tracking" by IMEI—which would require carrier cooperation, which is a non-starter right there—adds nothing to that.

Did they change at some point where the name off then Id has to be the email associated with it? It didn't used to be the case and even now I have an Apple Id and developer account the same as my forum name. If so though just make them an iTunes family account and then you can access the purchases

I'm fairly certain the user ID is the email associated with those. EDIT: Here's the relevant page for changing the email associated, which also changes email you use to sign in. Is this a moronic idea?

Although it may give a bit more time for you to get to a computer to do activation lock before the thief figures that out.

Are there many good interactive field guide apps? I think iBird is pretty great, and smartphones/tablets seem ideal for having with you and learning more about the world around you. Are the Audubon field guide apps any good, for instance? I would like to learn more about trees, but the Audubon Trees app has a lot of bad reviews.

Notability finally got updated so it actually works on iOS 8 and the 6+. I don't know if anyone actually uses notability anymore. It's my note app just because I'm too lazy to try out anything new.

I finally decided to take the plunge and get a password manager. First, I downloaded 1Password. I didn’t end up using it because I couldn’t use it with Chrome. I deleted that and picked up Lastpass since it had the bookmarklets that I could use with Chrome. I got it setup fine and the browser in the app works. It will fill the email/username and password fields. I go to Chrome, load up the site I want to test, and then use the bookmarklet by typing the name I assigned to the bookmarklet in the address bar. The Lastpass box pops up, but it says “No sites match this domain.” I’ve tried this with several sites and I’m getting the same thing. Any ideas?

Make sure the URL in the password entry form in the vault matches the login URL and not just the general site URL. For instance, https://www.facebook.com is just the website URL, it helps to make sure it says, https://www.facebook.com/login.php?login_attempt=1 or something to that effect. Though it's pretty functional to just have the general URL for most websites like FB, banks and stuff tend to need more accuracy. I've found that the best way is just to add entries from a computer browser when the little banner pops up after entering your info the first time, rather than from your device.

Works perfectly in Safari. Sadly only lets you copy/paste the password in Chrome, but it's much better and more secure than bookmarklets. Set that up, then try in Safari as a test.

Is there a TV tracker app that lets you see what's already been aired? I thought TeeVee would be perfect but you can't view what's already been shown (unless I'm missing something). I'm in the UK so US shows disappear off my list overnight, which obviously isn't convenient for when I wake up.

I'll have to put in request to the TeeVee devs because the design of that app is so gorgeous. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Earlier in the thread I asked about grocery list apps and found that I wasn't really happy with what was out there, so I made a small app of my own. It's very basic but does exactly what I want it to do, which is display a single list with items to buy on top, and items I've previously entered on bottom, sorted alphabetically. Pull down to create a new item with suggestions based on previously-entered items. Tap an item to toggle bought/not bought, tap and hold to rename, swipe to delete. Plus it looks nice (I think). Here's some promo codes if anyone is interested: Edit: All gone! Don't wanna spam the thread, so PM me if you'd like a code. dizzywhip fucked around with this message at 00:02 on Nov 11, 2014 |

I know that's a feature a lot of people use, so maybe I'll add it one day on the unlikely chance that the app becomes popular, but for now I don't have any plans for more features other than maybe a dark mode.
