Far Cry 3, Black Flag and Blacklist were all really good games that significantly advanced/changed the series they were part of. Not to say you're wrong mind, you're totally correct.

Well I could argue with you all day about Far Cry 3 being a step up, but Black Flag was pretty cool and I haven't played Blacklist.

It just seems like any advance they make on their own initiative seems to be a step away from what people actually liked about the previous games. When I played Far Cry 3, for example, I didn't really think "You know what Far Cry 2 really needed? More animals in conveniently placed cages"

I guess some people liked the deus ex anima Far Cry 3 offered so the significant step up from Far Cry 3 to 4 is... different animals! Elephants this time. People like them, right? I guess there may be more things like significantly improved AI, better shooting mechanics, more immersive elements or whatever but I doubt it.

Well he's not wrong. $60 isn't sustainable for massive budget AAA next gen games. I guess they could make smaller games, but they've obviously chosen to look for alternative revenue streams instead.

(Also Ubisoft should learn to write Assassin's Creed characters other than roguish Ezios or grim boring dudes. I guess this applies to most games if you think about it.)

I agree that Far Cry 3 was a bit simplified and video gamey compared to 2, but 2 was just really irritating to play when guard checkpoints respawn constantly and most missions had you travel across to the other side of the map.

The only reason an AAA studio hasn't locked away the ending to a game or an entire act of the main campaign behind the transaction paywall yet is because they're all looking at each other waiting for the first studio to be the sacrificial lamb

The Ezio thing is another really good example. He's a really, really well-written character and is actually a video game character I like to play as. He evolution he goes through from clumsy, oafish street brawler to high-ranking assassin is pretty drat good and reflected in a multitude of ways from subtle changes to his character model to the way he moves. There's a part in AC2 involving Leonardo that absolutely everyone I know who played AC2 replayed if they didn't do it right because it was such a terrible mischaracterization that Ezio doesn't immediately do it.

e: it seems that they hit a home run with Ezio so now try to remake him as much as possible while never really quite understanding what it was that made him so great.

Blackguards is an absolutely awful game. Boring Boring Boring, bad bad bad. The writing is terrible and gameplay pretty basic. I wouldn't buy it if it's the only reason to get the 6$ tier.

The whole "pay more for the real ending" thing has been around for a long time. I agree it hasn't seen a rebirth into the microtransactions world proper, but it would not really be new.

It's less annoying that the piss filter in Human Revolution. Basically VC is stylized to look like an old photo album of cel-shaded people.
By the way, VC already got a patch. Poor audio mix is a day-one issue for Sega.
