lol, this post is itself passive-aggressive, those others dudes are just normal aggressive.

edit: and I'm speaking as someone who likes a number of power metal bands (even a couple Nightwish tracks!)

here, have a sort-of-power-metal track from Epiclore with one of my favorite riffs ever:

Or does having an official music video make them too mainstream? I'm not sure how this works.

I was actually talking more generally, not referring to this Nightwish exchange. But I guess passive aggressive was the wrong term to use there. It was just off-handed riffing, didn't really think it through.

Also, drat I never realized Epiclore stuck around for that long. I used to listen to some old-rear end demo of theirs for a bit many years ago. By far the best thing about it was this instrumental Doom soundtrack medley:

Haven't heard it yet but this isn't exactly shocking. Hell, I actually like The Blackening better than their early stuff, but I didn't expect much more after how Unto the Locust collapsed upon itself about two tracks in or so.

All sarcasm aside, I can't see this as being a real newsflash. I mean, Machine Head are doing the same sort of thing they've been doing since '94 with Burn My Eyes. Nothing really new. While The Blackening may very well be the cream of their offering, the new album isn't THAT far from the path of what they've been doing for years. It's not as abysmal as Supercharger either. Personally, I can hear more similarities to their older material on this new album.

BoB is not the best quality vinyl.

And I'd have to ask why on earth you'd get a reissue of an album that was produced in such volume that you can almost certainly get (good condition) vinyl from the 80s for half the price?

You could say that about a lot of metal bands, unfortunately. Arghoslent's Hornets of the Pogrom is one of my favorite albums of all time. The beautiful thing with the internet age is that you can be a fan of a band with ideals like theirs and not give them a penny financially.

And the beautiful thing about extreme metal is that you often can't understand their dumb lyrics anyway.

Pretty cool stuff. This is another one-woman band like Myrkur, though it's a ways off from that project in terms of Myrkur's atmospheric black metal, versus Ennoea's doom. This is by the same woman that's in Fight the Demiurge and a bunch of other stuff.

really bad vocals, like it hurt my ears it was so bad. That band could use some sort of work where they 'de-crappy-fy' songs (maybe just toss them? I dunno). The band should go to shows of other metal/rock bands with a notepad & take notes. Sort of like the music equivalent of they should lurk more. Hideous. I would start with the Stones, then the Beatles, then Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Anthrax etc, going from there.

Here is some real metal.. This is maybe the darkest track I have ever heard of, by any musician (no, sludge metal does not count because it is just unintelligible noise with no coherent structure)

e2: I mean, metal should be hardcore but still be something that is coherent, has actual structure, & is meaningful, not just heavy to be heavy, if that makes any sense.
