Looking forward, Baylor and Oregon are real loving good at the things the Bama's not-so-great at defending. I'd say they're both likely to beat Bama in the playoffs if they get matched up.

Clint Trickett threw for 365 against them (his 3rd-highest total all year), which isn't blowing the door off, but it's good enough to give his team a chance. I don't think Baylor or Oregon would hang 60 on Bama, but they can easily score enough to win. PostNouveau fucked around with this message at 04:23 on Nov 21, 2014 |

Bama is also much improved since the first game. Saban generally gets big problems fixed by this point in the season. I'd probably favor Bama because evil usually wins, but I hope we get to see one or the other of those match ups this year. TCU is probably a worse matchup for Bama than either of those teams though.

Nobody's run on Baylor with any consistency - our D-line has been fantastic and our linebackers have been quite good in run support. OU rightly got poo poo for giving us huge cushions for most of that game, but there were multiple times when they tried to play press and then Corey Coleman just embarrasses his DB for 30+ yards, and I know TCU hit us with some press coverage and we hung 61 points and 700 yards on 'em. Bama's secondary isn't that good, whereas WVU's secondary is deceptively good. Daryl Worley's a plus guy.

Let me put it this way, the formula to beat the spread is actually pretty simple, and I've seen it a lot. Particularly the run-first version of it. WVU lost to Pittsburgh 13-9 (and struggled mightily with USF every time) because they used that same exact gameplan. Lock the WR's down with tight man to man and just blitz the hell out of them.

I still think the committee might just flip over the game board after conference championship week and start all over. Miss. St. being ahead of Baylor right now doesn't necessarily box out Baylor (or OSU) later.

Sure, it's unlikely, but weirder poo poo's happened. We were 5 points away from TCU losing to motherfucking Kansas a week ago. Not that I'm banking on the Playoff at this point or anything - particularly with the committee being arbitrary and making it up as they go and poo poo. But whatever. Fun season, new stadium, ripped TCU's heart out, probably going to get back-to-back Big 12 titles after years of garbage. It'd take a pretty major meltdown for me to get too down on this season.

If WVU's pass rush can get to Bryce Petty, literally anyone can if they try. Most people just don't -- see OU. They try to play safe an keep everything infront of them and then Petty just makes short underneath passes and picks them apart, spreads them out, and then they gash you up the middle for a big run.

Bama's corners don't have to lock down receivers by themselves because the line can contain shut down any run-game so the linebackers can drop back to help. I don't think we've actually tried blitzing anyone on a consistent basis this year but even if it's just an extra guy every play it would probably be pretty goddamned nasty.

Yeah, like, I think you can beat them if you're dynamic like JFF was and force them to play on their heals, I just haven't seen that from Bryce Petty this year like I did from him in the past. I would like to see TCU play them though.
