Who the gently caress wants to retire and live with roommates, with no hope for future increases in income? And does that 27k include his rental property? While I like MMM most people are not in the position to just grab a super profitable rental property in a desirable area. A paid off house is also a big deal, even $300 a month rent is 36% of your allotted 10k.

So, my bad-with-money roommate recently informed me that he stopped taking his anti-depressants so he could trip on ecstasy. He's been rewatching Fear and Loathing over and over again, sometimes imitating the voice of Hunter S. Thompson. And of course, he's continued to buy more and more garbage--posters, big nice frames for the posters, a new duvet set, a chaise-lounge that he bought a week before our lease expires and that he'll have to move out of this house into his new apartment. I also heard him talking on the phone about buying more psychedelics. All of this with the 401k savings that were supposed to go to a dental surgery. I don't know if he's tripping right now, but:  The middle "w00t" and "watch out for dem bats" is from me. I thought he was joking?  And he's been standing outside smoking cigarettes, drinking and talking to himself in the Hunter S. Thompson voice. Grew up in the Midwest and I don't care how cheap it is to live there, there is a drat good reason it's so cheap to live there - there's no opportunity and no real reason to live there otherwise. EDIT: Bad with money: going to university in hopes of getting a good paying job, only to realize the major you picked has no employment prospects outside of aforementioned dirt-cheap Midwestern/Gulf Coast cities.

Hey hey hey, let's leave Pennsylvania out of the New England hate as it is not a part of New England. Does it suck? Yes, but it gets less snow. Being a Philadelphia fan is probably bad with money however (since they never win). When I got out of college I lived in a lovely part of town and by splitting it my rent was like, $250-300 after expenses (this was in Nashville). That being said, I now make way more than what I made then so I don't have to go back to that lifestyle. Nashville is also an example that there are areas of the country that are both good to love in with things to do, and pretty drat cheap to live in.

Hell, if you live in the US go find a private party used car magazine and look for a 1996-2000 Chevy K/G1500/2500 or GMC Sierra 4x4 for about 2000-3000. Make sure the body is decent and the 4WD works. Preferably around 125k miles and that there is no history of tranny or engine issues. Also check if it had regular maintenance. Electric actuators are superior to vacuum ones (google.) Take it down to a suspension shop, get your ball joints replaced, as well as pitman arm and idler arm. Enjoy 3-8 years of 4WD for about 5-6k. Delica Is Always The Answer Without knowing your routine or commute this may be terrible advice, I'd personally consider selling the econobox, and buying a road-legal XR250 (or other cheapish dual sport) + a 4WD. With the 4x4 you're kind of duplicating the day to day functionality of the car (albeit with worse fuel economy), with a bike and a 4WD you get something that's fun as poo poo, can tackle single tracks, and the greater fuel economy can offset the extra petrol you burn daily driving the 4WD in the wet. I reliably got ~26km/l on my 92' XLR250. This assuming you don't hate fun/motorbikes, of course. This isn't really saving you much (if any) money vs keeping the original car since I assume NT bike rego is like Tassie's (ie the same as a goddamn car for anything over 125cc), just food for thought.
