It had a lot of unwarranted hype in PSM and early gaming news sites because they read too much into MaxFive's tenuous connection to Quest and thus Tactics Ogre and FFT.

That's probably the only game I know of where I read an LP (Neutrino's) and said, "Oh, that's how you're supposed to play that game?"

What an obtuse game. I used to have a thing for really niche SRPGs (Kartia for life~) but Hoshigami marked the end of that. It was all down hill from there.

The LP was a product of its time, with little production values, toilet humor and a spectacular "gently caress I'm 90% done and I lost my save" ending.

i refuse to believe that they tested the crafting system when they released it, because who the hell is crazy enough to think that was a good implementation.

Either cheat through the bullshit crafting or ignore it entirely. It isn't like you need it for anything but boring postgame stuff.

I own it including all the contents that came within it's box. It had a special dual disc case made for it with the CD center holder removed because it was a single disc game. They just gave it multi disc case in order to make it look like the other large Square Enix and RPG games.

I owned quite a few games that did this silly disc case trick, heh.

What's more, the crafting success rate isn't fixed. Instead, it is based on something incredibly esoteric like average total stats or some poo poo so you might be able to raise it by a percentage or two if you do absolutely everything in the game.

As a total aside I somehow wound up with THQ Pacific's archive copy of Soul Nomad from when they distributed it for AU/NZ. It's just a sticker on the back of the box, but..kinda neat. Ish.

Just by progressing though the game normally a lot of my bars/ores went up from 90ish % to 100% so it at least has a more significant impact on the basic materials

I may have forgotten the specific rate. It has been years since I tried doing that crafting without at least cheating up the success rate.

Enchanted Arms is the worst JRPG I have ever played. It's so lovely that even the people that made it realized it so they give you an option to auto-win every battle because the combat is such a boring mess. The protagonist has all the charisma of a dead dog and the supporting casts most interesting member is a gay stereotype. It's so bad. I curse the day I paid seven dollars for it.
I think the only reason it sold any copies was that it was one of the only RPGs out for the 360 at the time. (I think Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey were not out yet and those were the two at the time that everyone was waiting for.)
