I just had the best ??? run I'll probably ever have. Piercing, shielded, concussive shot, a bunch of damage-ups, Li'l Brimstone, Pinking Shears, Taurus, Dead Dove, a Chaos Card I needlessly blew on It Lives, and probably a bunch of other good poo poo I've forgotten. I finished the boss rush with more health than I started (hell, it's the only time I've done the boss rush), and still died to the third form of Satan. Is there any way to predict those foot stomps? I've apparently beaten Satan before—on Hard mode, with Cain—but don't remember what my build was or how I pulled it off. Rollersnake fucked around with this message at 02:32 on Dec 3, 2014 |

I beat the Beans challenge after what must be a 100 tries, thanks to getting Guppy's head and using flies to do most of my damage.

Look for shadows and keep moving why are you not circling the room perimeter while you can't see both hooves?

Is there anything confirmed about how/if Faith up and items like the Bible actually increase the chance of finding Angel Rooms? I literally only need to find Godhead and every run I've tried I'll only find one, and even with bombing the Angel I'll only maybe have the setup to reroll 2-3 times maximum, which has yielded diddly.

They appear directly above you and come down a second later, so just keep circling around the room until they are both down. They literally cannot hit you if yo keep moving and don't double back.

I'm coordinated enough to play Isaac with a controller on my tablet whilst speed-walking on a treadmill. Not well, I took my sweet time and only saw a single Devil Room, but I was able to get through and beat ???. The fanny pack and humbling bundle are absolutely lol together when you're milking casinos. I think the only thing that would have made that better was a swallowed penny for more coin drops. And Lord of the Flies mode means you never really "lose" the shell game.

An unfortunate side effect of playing this on a Vita with too much background light, I guess.

I'm well aware of the Sharp Plug method, I've used it to get the Meat/Bandage myself. Problem is that if I only manage to see 1 or 2 Angel Rooms a run, even if I have the Sharp Plug, and by that point I don't have a set up that let's me reroll much, since without the Wafer it takes 2 hearts/1 soul heart per charge. I suppose I could look for the Placenta after the first few bosses but I'd rather play the game than read a book waiting for the recharge. Oh well, guess I'll just keep doing Isaac D6 runs until the game decides to take pity on me.

The only thing I can think of that reliably drops half a heart on the ground without necessitating you getting hit is lil' Chad, but that'd be obvious since he follows you around. Beats me what's causing it if its a drop and not an auto-refill. In other news, I have the Placenta and the Habit, I figured there is usually at least one soul fire in the Angel Room and I could use that to infinite reroll. Except I'm in Necro II now and have rejected 3 Devil Deals and havent seen a single Angel room. Goddamnit.

Internet Kraken posted:What exactly are the ways to generate infinite charges? The only way I can think of off the top of my head is cloning batters with the blank card and jera rune. There are a few. 1) Pyromaniac (heal with explosions/bomb damage) + Ipecac, Dr. Fetus, Epic Fetus, or even Mom's Toenail, with the Sharp Plug. Using the Sharp Plug on an empty charge use item will cost two red hearts or one soul/sin heart to fill your bar. If you have the Wafer it brings it down to half a heart no matter what. Since you can bomb yourself to heal, tada infinite recharge. Having a lot of bombs and pyromaniac will get you a lot of rerolls, which is useful if you are looking for bomb tears in the Chest. 2) The Sharp Plug + Scapular. This requires you to have at least two rooms empty of enemies to move into as the Scapular only recharges once per room, much like the Holy Mantle (which does NOT work with the Sharp Plug fyi). When you are down to half a heart Scapular will give you a whole soul heart. Leave the room you got the soul heart in and use the Plug, which takes away that soul heart, but since you entered a new room and the Scapular recharged it will regive you soul heart. Leave the room and come back, repeat forever. 3) Placenta + Sharp Plug/Habit. Placenta recharges health randomly every few minutes. If you have the habit you need some way of hurting yourself. Fair warning, this takes forever, the Wafer is a good item to have for this. Have fun reading the forums or something I guess. Important: if you are using the Sharp Plug you need to plan ahead so that you can use it when you dont have any charge. Also be wary of other items from the shop with it. The 9 Volt renders it comppletely useless, and the Battery and Habit can be used with it but it could be easy to gently caress it up and have a charge without meaning to.

I don't know if this has been covered, but since I posted so much about Platinum God/The Real Platinum God not popping I found out the reason from the steam discussion forums - I've been playing on my trusty old macbook pro, and a ton of other mac players have had the same issue. You apparently just need to access the game on a PC or some other version and you're set.

Dark bum is pretty much a run winner all on its own even after the nerf. The fact that it only costs 1 red heart is pretty absurd. Its less good on hard since heart drops aren't as common but still worth it in 99% of games.

I had one of the worst Samson runs going, and all I had left was 2 hearts and Brimstone by the time I got to the womb. Then that thing showed up in a devil room. I became completely unkillable after that. There's no reason to keep any red heart containers after finding it.

It Lives requires a certain amount of Heart kills, some people might "beat the game" as one character and move to another and struggle to win and quit and so on without knowing they need to do certain things. The game's difficulty curve combined with its price makes it something people can rage quit and forget about without feeling buyer's remorse, too.

I thought it was entirely a (tiny) chance of getting a SH drop on taking damage. If that's so I might actually take Gimpy more often when the devil offers it. I'll gladly take it any other time but I really never found it good enough to trade health for unless it's a "I'm cheesing satan, might as well take everything" situation.

Butyraceous posted:It really blows my mind how few people have unlocked some of the simplest things. Only 30% of the people who own this game unlocked It Lives? So I played 38 levels using the BASE MENT seed, and apparently exhausted my pools using Blank Card+Joker and then the D4 a few times. I managed to kill my stats and good items so I finally gave up.
