I liked the Chemistry Sets they did, but they stopped releasing new ones early this year. I need all of my hats to be strange, Valve.

Put in purchasable rechargeable noisemakers. Make noisemakers not disappear once they reach 0 charges and instead require a few refined to recharge, say, a scrap per recharge, or a refined for 25 charges. I have been suggesting this for literally years

A roulette wheel that costs 1 refined and has a chance of giving out a key amongst winning weapons, crates, more scrap, stranges, a cosmetic from the cosmetic drop table, maybe even an exclusive roulette hat, would instantly solve the metal problem. The majority of the time, of course, it gives out garbage, but it would give out enough stuff like old festive weapons you can't get anywhere else that people would still spin it instead of trading the scrap for cosmetics directly.

Is there an online shop for the crap you can buy? I see there's an in-game shop but it's only a few pages of stuff. I thought TF2 had thousands of everything because people make loads of cosmetic junk don't they? I saw an engineer dressed as a fly and he had a squeaky voice. 10/10

That's one of his Halloween costumes from 2011, it's only active during full moons, around Halloween or on servers with Halloween mode disabled. If you want it, the parts are like 1 scrap to 1 rec each, go to backpack.tf, look the parts up and check their classified listings. It's the best way to find the cheapest item for sale right now.

Cool, i'm literally an idiot and still learning about this game [and it's shtick]. I hear of people trading, and you guys talking about scrap and stuff. I keep finding weapons in game and keep getting crates during gameplay, but i've never done anything other than maybe change a hat for my classes. No idea.

I'm aware I'm getting the lesser deal but compared to buying 3 bucks of weapons off the TF2 store to turn into scrap metal how'd I make out?

Once you start getting multiple copies of weapons, you can melt down the duplicates into scrap metal under the crafting menu. DO NOT SCRAP YOUR ACHIEVEMENT WEAPONS, the scrap will be untradable as will anything made from it. Any two weapons from the same class can be crafted into a scrap, 3 scrap into a reclaimed, and 3 reclaimed into a refined. Thus 1 scrap equals 1/9 of a refined. Sometimes you'll see people talking about item prices in decimals of a refined, such as 1.33 ref for most hats. This means 1 refined, 3 scrap/1 reclaimed. I just type "exec goodping.cfg" in the console before I join a class.

Solumin posted:I put the two ping configs in their own files, "goodping.cfg" and "badping.cfg". Yeah I've got the same setup, it makes it a lot easier to change up your autoexec too, I was just trying to keep it simple for the example. The good ping block is the go-to block though, yeah. You only really need to switch over to the bad ping block if your network connection is regularly causing character models to stutter, your ping is consistently pretty high (~80ms+) or you're getting a load of jitter.

Is autoexec another name for the Developer console? Because that's where I put the good connection block stuff in.

I think certain commands are for game/session only and must be scripted to reduce typing.

When your game starts it reads config.cfg for your game settings, and then reads autoexec.cfg afterwards and executes those settings. The game also reads autoexec.cfg whenever you load a map, and <class>.cfg whenever you change a class. They're easy ways to put customizations you want the game to execute automatically without having to screw around in config.cfg

If you don't know where your autoexec (automatic execution) file is or don't have one, go to Steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/cfg, the Steam folder being wherever you installed it (Program Files by default on Windows). If you've got an autoexec.cfg file in that directory, open it in any text editor and stick the desired network block in. If not, just open Notepad and save an autoexec.cfg file in the aforementioned directory, making sure that you change "Save as type" to all files, not txt.

How bad a deal is it for me? I'm aware I'm getting the lesser deal but compared to buying 3 bucks of weapons off the TF2 store to turn into scrap metal how'd I make out? Super bad. But don't worry, everyone's made bad trades and it's all pennies for the most part. In particular, a scrap is worth about two cents, while trading cards are worth anywhere from 9 cents to several bucks, and probably average at around 25 cents a pop. The value of the trading card is tied to its rarity, and thus the cost of the game that is needed to get them. So a free game like TF2 has super cheap cards (9-10 cents) while a rare card from an expensive game can be absurdly costly (a foil Louis XIV of France from Europa Universalis IV runs at $57.50). Of course you get less value trading in metal than in hard currency. http://scrapbank.me/prices/ In general, keep your trading intentional and don't accept solicitors.
