yeah there is no way to shoot a billion or trillion frames per second, at best this is a scientifically directed artist's rendition

Nope, LOL

What was the name of the actress who played Peter Pan in the 80's? I remember her being pretty great at the part. Or was that still Mary Martin?

ed: Holy poo poo, that was still just a Mary Martin VHS I used to watch. I wish they had cast Lena Ham as Captain Hook

Wow, you'd think she was related to someone at NBC or something.

I guess you could shoot it with a bunch of closely located cameras at staggered intervals and with overlapping fields of view, and then stitch the photo sequences back together. I guess one caveat could be that even one of these cameras costs like at least a hundred bucks!!! And the end result could at best look identical to this one.

"scientifically directed artist's rendition" is actually pretty drat accurate.

When you get down to one photon on the quantum mechanics level, none of the rules really even apply. Photons don't go the speed of light, they go both faster and slower. They don't go in a straight line, they not only curve, but sometimes go backwards or get caught in spirals. And the angle of incidence is not the angle of reflection; they bounce wherever the hell they want. They just average out to to the standard rules. The camera just works by taking in a ridiculous amount of data and sorts out the even-more-ridiculous amount of noise to give you the neat little video.

Though don't be fooled, there is some real science going on there. If you want a mind boggling proof on all that stuff, Richard Feynman's QED: The Strange Theory of Light and Matter is a fascinating read. However, even though Feynman's prose is awesome to help you understand, as armchair scientist books go, it is extremely difficult due to the non-intuitive nature of the subject matter.

would a hundred dollar camera likely have the internals necessary to program a shutter to fire a trillionth of a second after the one before it? i think light travels faster than the electricity in the circuits that would make the shutter operate, and thats hardcore science right there.:colbert:

To see a photon presumably a photon has to hit a sensor, and yet we're seeing a photon hitting a mirror instead. So we're not really seeing this happen anyway. It's a thin tissue of lies! (Alternatively, I have no loving clue about the intricacies of imaging single photons.)

I'm thinking the photon is interacting with a gas of some kind? Otherwise how could you see it?

There was another experiment similar to this where you could see light illuminate something in super slow motion.

The whole point of stats are lost if you keep it a secret. Why Didn't you tell the world eh?
While I am not familiar with the particulars of the mirror example, generally these are taken with pulses of light, not individual photons.

He actually learned to tap dance as a kid, it was how the moms in his neighborhood kept their kids from getting into trouble. As he once said in an interview after mentioning that: "... So I got a theory, that alot of these old cops from the Bronx... can tap dance."

Not the first time Walken has done some weak poo poo for a paycheck either: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMxPCTebMzI

I wouldn't bother, it's mostly just boring. And it came to be because the live thing they did last year was a ratings beast, so they will do this forever now. Next year is Music Man, I think.
