In further Archeage related news, the game has received an award as part of Massively's Best of 2014 award series. The award? Biggest Story of the Year! The news is not as good as it sounds though.Massively's Jeff Rehard posted:There are probably bigger stories in terms of hits but for me the biggest story is the horror show that is ArcheAge. At this point it's like a case study in how to destroy an MMORPG, and while it's heartbreaking that it's happened to such a feature-rich and full-of-potential game, I can't look away from the dumpster fire. There's a new indignity every week -- sometimes every couple of days -- whereas most MMO-related stories make headlines for a day or two and then flame out. Not AA, though; the tragicomedy just keeps on coming. You heard it here first folks! AA is the #1 MMO dumpster fire of the year! http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/12/09/massivelys-best-of-2014-awards-biggest-story-of-the-year/ DapperDraculaDeer fucked around with this message at 00:14 on Dec 10, 2014 |

Massively is kind of odd. Its columnists who write about a specific game actually play the game they cover so their reporting is universally favorable. I really dont know if it is fair to expect anything more since those columnists are probably paid next to nothing so they are playing/writing because they actually enjoy the game. The news coverage on Massively on the other hand is actually ok as far as gaming news sites goes. Their tone is generally optimistic, but they do report on how badly MMO are doing. In one recent example they reported on how poor Wildstar's developer, Carbine is rated by employees on Glassdoor.com. Still, for one of Massively's people to describe a game as a "dumpster fire" is not normal.
|
# ? Dec 10, 2014 00:54 |
Yeah, I'm not insinuating its a nefarious thing. Its just reporting is generally done by someone who enjoys the game. So its usually fanboy level articles until the writer gets bored with the game.

(all of them) I guess so. I'm a pretty huge Blizzard fan and Titans cancellation did nothing for me. I was more broken up about StarCraft Ghosts. I guess if I knew more about what Titan was suppose to be I would have cared, but all I ever heard about the game was rumors, and none of it was interesting.

Not that it matters but I closed the offsite forum. 2/2 on running off site forums for immediately doomed MMO's.

The trick is off site forums are not really needed for most things. People that think they are are normally misguided or confused about what threads you could create on the popular gay site forums dot something awful dot com.

Did goons lose those packs or did the Wicked guys we were escorting? Maybe I'm thinking of a different day. Is that the one where the "leaders" of GS at the time weren't online so someone else was running it and they made a few mistakes, they weren't in direct contact with Wicked, and FC swooped in with a massive Cutter? I guess that couldn't have been on day 4, could it?

I guess that couldn't have been on day 4, could it? I think Dodgy was the guild leader at that point, but not there at the time. I think that was the first of the two huge losses that led to the pack tax on Freedich. The other being DBRB's infamous radar skills being put to use that had us thinking FC was teleporting and poo poo.

I ran some packs into the ground due to dumbs when like dodgy was out and stormgale was missing and kim was afk and basically anyone who pvpd or did stuff was not around. I failed pretty hard that time, but it was like a month in or something, not day 4.

They knew we were coming and you can't be expected to bring an army for every Freedich run. If anything, Goonrathi had the right idea around that time of just running clipper fulls at odd hours and not mentioning it in guild chat or general idiot chat.

We only had around 4 50s in the guild and it was nearly every goons first trip to Freedich

I was there when we helped wicked go for freedich, during those runs we lost like 4-5 packs total out of all of the ones I was on. Then during the prime FC tax season I lost 1 ship to sugoi and got 2 ships in to get my bungalow, which is pretty rad btw.

A Christmas promotion usually involves a sale. Something tells me after the recent "gift" as an apology for the down time Trion has no interest in giving out any further discounts. They are probably also trying to just keep their heads down and not draw any further attention to the game for now. There has been a lot of incredibly negative publicity lately.
