Haha no, though I plan at least taking an amateur fight if I can get my schedule to where I can train seriously and consistently enough (I've really only had the time for bjj recently). If this occurs I would be sure to post video so people can enjoy my victory or take pleasure in watching me get beat up.

Yeah uh the rule is subtract 3 inches and 25 pounds from wrestling height so he's probably 5'10-5'11 and maybe 200 when he's fat Kevin Nash (legit 6'10) said he was inspired to take up wrestling because Hulk Hogan (billed 6'10) walked past him at a show and he saw he had like 3 or 4 inches on the Hulkster.

Here's Finnish Pro-Wrestler Tony Halme fighting Randy Couture in the UFC back in the day. That guys credentials were being athletic in his youth, boxing on the side, but mostly lifting lots of weights and being a showman.

1st AD posted:Lol, so CM Punk isn't remotely a blue belt. He's trained infrequently with Rener. Yeah, this is why I don't loving get people saying he's practically a purple belt. Don't you have to have been a blue belt for like 3 years before you're eligible for purple belt consideration under IBJJF rules? (This is where someone tells me that the Gracie Academies go by their own system.) And I don't think it's "he's trained infrequently with Rener." He apparently trains in Chicago (one of the Gracie Breakdowns he featured on had him giving a shout out to someone there IIRC), but given that up until this year he was on the road constantly and was also incredibly banged up, I'm curious as to how well he has been training. It's more "he's been training very infrequently", period. The clips they've had of him rolling on Gracie Breakdowns are interesting. Again, going off foggy memory, but there was one where he was making a fairly common white belt mistake and put himself into a submission fairly easily...and again, I'm saying this as a guy who has been training 2-3 days a week for about 2 years now (ie, not very experienced or knowledgeable.) It's going to be interesting seeing what guys with solid grappling backgrounds are gonna do with Punk, both training and in whatever actual fight he gets. For the latter part of his career, Punk has always been a somewhat out of shape 210-220 pound dude. Yeah sure, he could put on great matches, but the dude obviously didn't lift much; in fact he called bench pressing a terrible exercise that no one should do because its bad for their shoulders...and well it shows that he's probably never touched a bench. The early part of his career he was in great shape. I think with the right strength and conditioning trainers erasing his stupid opinions on workouts, he could make some real progress in actually getting in shape. Being successful at fighting is a whole different thing though. Auron fucked around with this message at 13:47 on Dec 11, 2014 |

The fact that he openly says that he's never really sparred with elite guys is the most concerning thing of all. I mean, neither have I, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that sparring properly with someone who is close to your skill level higher or lower is a stressful and painful experience and not very fun. Sure, he's going to be matched up with someone who is a journeyman themselves, but even then, he's going to need to get used to being punched by dudes who want to knock him out. If I were him, I'd be asking dudes to beat the crap out of me while trying their best to not concuss me in the hopes that I can take a punch both physically and mentally.

Yeah, but he's also said he didn't expect to be able to sign/announce until this summer because of his legal situation with WWE. And by planning, I doubt that means much more than thinking about what organization to sign with, rolling more with Rener, and vaguely thinking about what gym he might want to go to. He was still under contract to WWE until June when he got married, and had a year long non-compete forced on him until his lawyer got it cleared up, so I doubt he thought he'd be fighting next year.

david carmichael posted:its the brock lesnar thing: if he hasn't taken it seriously up till now, what makes you believe he's gonna start It's certainly fair to question if a guy will be able to deal with getting punched for real when the last fight he was in was apparently many years ago against Teddy Hart outside a Denny's. Obviously way too early to know the answer to that but Punk's never been accused of being lazy even by his detractors. He knows he's way behind the curve and genuinely seems to want to prove to himself and the skeptics he can do this. I think there's a hell of a lot of obstacles in his way but I don't think a lack of work ethic or desire is one of them.
