It's probably not a good idea to look at all of these at once. Pace yourself.

Slim Pickens posted:That's a really common look/color grade in a lot of Hollywood movies these days. Not sure if there's a specific reason for it other than those end up on opposite ends of the color temperature spectrum. Tungsten=3200K which appears orange, daylight=5600K which appears as white normally, but if the camera white balance is toward a 'warmer' color temp(warm as in the feel of the light, not warm as in Kelvin), it reads as blue. The reason is that human skin tones generally fall somewhere on the orange spectrum, so to contrast actors and make them "pop", backgrounds get pushed towards blue-green in post-production color processing.

xzzy posted:Is Michael Bay making it? That's a lot of blue and orange. Blue and orange are used a lot in paintings to represent depression and insanity; they are also complementary, producing a pleasing mix at the same time as providing a visual clue to the despair felt by the characters in the film. Beksinski and Salvador Dali have done some amazing things with blue and orange.

It's perfection to the point where I want to sell my Evo and build something else because I'll never get close to this. From the B-Pillar back is one single carbon fibre clam. Same for the front end. Has push-rod suspension which looks amazing in person. Fuel Cell is next to the driver in the cabin, covered by more carbon fibre.

Are those eccentrics on tapered splines? Is this what I am seeing here? Is it some sort of self retaining taper / redonkulous press fit? I'm pretty stoked to see how this works out.

I've finally got something I can put in this thread: a brand new racetrack is under construction just a couple hours' drive south of me.

Definitely a car focused track rather than bike, but cool. Another Seattle area-ish track.

I really dislike modern track design, every course I see seems to use a paint-by-numbers approach. I understand that with the amount of money it takes to build a track they have to do things a certain way, but it feels like it really robs the enterprise of any opportunity to build a reputation.

Instead of making the kart a smaller smoothed out version of the main course, they should have scaled up the main track from the kart track. The corners look more fun.

Guinness posted:Wait this is near Seattle? Details? Area 27, in Oliver, BC - the southern end of the Okanagan valley. About a five-hour drive from Seattle, I guess. It's all spearheaded by Jacques Villeneuve, and he's catering hard to all the rich people who already vacation here in the summer - hockey players, etc. I spoke with a rep last summer, and they seem to be on course to have the track open by mid-summer 2015, helped along by their golf-course-style memberships - starting at a $30k buy in, and going all the way up to $90k, plus yearly dues. The rep said that the curbing is going to be all right for both cars and bikes, and money from the members will go towards keeping usage fees reasonably cheap, and keeping pro staff on site of course. The pictures don't show it, but there are some areas with fairly large elevation changes. I can't say for sure where, because it's been a while since then and the track layout's been altered. The karting course is going to have drop-in events with junior karts, paddle-shift karts, and everything in between. There's a bunch more info but I can't remember it all, check the site.

How long until a subdivision gets built close to it and the people who knowingly moved next to a race track complain about the noise and get it shut down?

I know nothing about bikes, is the 250 actually lighter enough to carry that much more speed through the corners? Or is this just a good demonstration of skill>power?

Both, it looks like the guys on the bigger bikes aren't using anywhere near the entire width of the track in the corners. The guy on the 250 has much better lines

Fucknag posted:I know nothing about bikes, is the 250 actually lighter enough to carry that much more speed through the corners? Or is this just a good demonstration of skill>power? A little column a, a lot of column b. A very skilled rider on a 250 will out corner an idiot on a supersport. But even in that video you can see the extreme speed difference. poo poo gets sketchy when closing speed differential is that high, no matter how skilled the guy on the smaller bike is.
