Well they should try that out again with a new gun(along with some wackier ideas), since in my opinion TF2 is at a point in it's life span where it should be more and more experimental in what it can do(we've seen a little bit of that with the Beta maps, and the big updates from Love & War onward but we need to get even crazier), although at the same time we need to avoid another Short Circuit buff, Sticky Launcher nerf sort of fiasco

drrockso20 posted:Really the Extra Sentry and the Rocket Specialist(and maybe the Heavy Stuff) are the only ones of those I could really see being overpowered, the others could be balanced by giving the weapons they'd be attached to reasonably strong drawbacks, like for example the Two-Way Teleporter can't be upgraded, and both halves cost a full 200 Metal to build Valve doesn't have a good record of balancing items with downsides that really count for anything. No doubt the downside to exploding headshots would be a slightly slower charging rate or no random crits.

Paul MaudDib posted:Yup, agreed on all points. I definitely preferred the old design for BFB (although the old damage specs with new movement specs would probably be ideal, since it was a smidge underpowered before) but even now it's not the straight upgrade it's made out to be. You're definitely giving up sustained pushing power in order to rule the 1v1 roost--which, yes, is your ideal role as a scout anyway, but unless your team is dominating there will be times that you just have to commit to a push and you can't afford to withdraw and reload at your leisure.

Here's my thoughts; -No Random Crits -can't fire unless zoomed(like the Machina) -only deals 50% of the Stock Rifle's damage on body-shots This seems reasonably balanced to me(might need to tweak the body shot damage nerf a bit though), although with the Head Shot explosion what should the radius be and how much damage should it deal?

As pyro is there any other negatives [other than airblast cost] to using the backburner instead of the stock flamer? Crits from behind is surely too good to pass up, unless you're a serial airblaster?
|
# ? Dec 14, 2014 13:46 |

The airblast cost is a real negative, you can't shut down an uber nearly as well with the Backburner, shoving people off cliffs leaves you dangerously low on ammo, and if your Medic is burning but clueless, you can waste a lot of ammo trying to put him out. Also, thanks to wonky hit detection and latency, the crits from behind aren't particularly reliable, so "no random crits" is also a real drawback. That said, I've switched from Degreaser to Backburner for the most part (I'd been using the Back Scratcher before okay don't judge me).

Why have I never used the shortstop before? If you can aim (which sometimes I can do), it's loving lethal. I use it like a repeating weapon.

pisshead posted:Why have I never used the shortstop before? If you can aim (which sometimes I can do), it's loving lethal. I use it like a repeating weapon. It really is, but doesn't have quite as much killing power as the Scattergun against stronger targets like a solider and Heavy due to the lack of super meat shots. I usually pull it out when there's an annoying BFB scout or pyro. Since it's better damage at mid-range, you can try and stay away from them, while they have to close to close range to get the most out of their weapons. However, it also uses the same ammo pool as the pistol so you need to really keep an eye on your ammo.

That just gives you a good excuse to use the cleaver. Or the critcola, it turns the shortstop into a shotgun made of sniper rifles.

The problem I'd have with a sniper rifle that rewards headshots and punishes bodyshots is that there are already two of those (Bazaar Bargain, Hitman's Heatmaker) along with a third that situationally rewards headshots and removes no-scope bodyshots (Machina). As far as I'm concerned that design area has pretty much been explored.

I love demoman shields because they are fun to use and now the tide turner makes grenade launcher demoknight a pretty viable strategy, there's a lot fewer people airdetting stickies in my face. Dying to a demoknight feels a hell of a lot less cheap than dying to sticky spam.

I, too, like dying to a class that can turn around a blind corner faster than anything in the game, one-shots most classes and regains his charge instantly after a kill. One that can only be escaped from by explosive jumping away.

I mainly play Soldier so dealing with demo knights isn't all that troublesome. Rocket to their feet sends the charging cyclops into the air, usually over my head and then out comes the shotgun to finish them off.

They're not even that bad if you're a Spy, either. It's really easy to hit a target charging in a straight line towards you with the revolver, especially if you have the Enforcer.

The only thing that annoys me about the speed increased weapons is that they seem to mess with the hit boxes loads. If you play against some one with a bad computer/internet they can be almost unhittable. Both the targe and baby blaster seem to suffer from this.
