i actually have one of these in my possession (given to me for free years ago) and can personally vouch that it is awful in just about every conceivable way. to give a sense of scale, those tubes in each side hold 2 AAs each and the hdd is a 2.5", it's like a little lead brick in your pocket (assuming your pockets are large enough lol). its ui is even worse, its internal industrial design is laughable, build quality is poo poo, and it makes scratchy noises while you play mp3s, the better to simulate vinyl i guess

basically what im saying is your friend was a hilarious dyp'ing idiot

i love that nobody could figure out how to make a usable UI for something that had folder structure and playlists, until of course apple did it

and even then it was like black magic for a couple years, the cheap oems just couldn't get right
