Because everyone was saying it wouldn't happen, that Nick wouldn't allow it, that we were sexualizing a kid's show, that they were just good friends and why can't two female characters just be good friends? Well, the tension that I've been seeing since like season 3 is real and I feel validated. Also as someone who works in LGBT health, I just love to see LGBT characters in mainstream media!

Ok I need to calm down the jumping now before someone yells at me.

I'm neutral on it myself, but I think now that they're proven right against the odds they're allowed to have a little bit of time to say "ha ha we told you so."

It was honestly a really organic development of a relationship that, even had it never transitioned to romance, was a good example of two young women being supportive and protective of each other in ways that don't involve relying on stereotypes or inhibiting personal growth. I mean, yeah, it's a lot of significance to assign to a cartoon, but there aren't a lot of positive examples for little girls to look up to out there and this is by far one of the better ones. That they ended up together romantically doesn't matter to me one way or the other, but it is nice to see some LGBTQ representation on kids television and get away from the idea that the heroine always has to end up with whatever bland secondary male character.

Yea I never super bought into it but I like seeing it official and all as a gay person myself. People gave em a lot of poo poo over it and it's fair to be all 'ahaha told you bitches' for a bit. They're being far less annoying than the Zutara crowd would have been if that poo poo got validated so I can't complain.

This! More than anything, I'm happy it was classy and not exploitative. Just hit the right notes and moved on. I don't want to say that I'm literally cheering, but as GLBT person, it was extremely heartening to see

That was a fantastic end. I really enjoyed it.

I'm legit sad that it is the end for the foreseeable future, and likely forever.

The fight with the Mecha suit was great. I really enjoyed the sense of scale, especially as it was wrecking the town in wanton abandon. That shot were it slowly turns to fire at the downed Airbenders really nailed it for me.

And holy poo poo, the fight in the command center was fantastic, as was the fights with the engineers.

That all said, I'm happy that the series ended with Korra understanding her adversary. I don't think it was handled perfectly, as it was a bit of a let down especially considering the end of ATLA, but I liked the cord it struck in the end. I cannot help but think this season needed an episode from Kuvira perspective more than anything. If there was a "Kuvira Alone" episode in the mix, I think it would of really been perfect. But in the end, you use what you got and I liked it overall.

Also, holy poo poo that explosion in the end. I never thought I'd see an Akira reference, but there it was. So good.

I also want to say the Soundtrack owned.

Eh. I mean you can construe it as one I guess. But by the standards of this show? Not even close. Plus Korra being able to do poo poo with the Negative energy/Vaatu beam had actually been previously established.

I liked it way better than the end of ATLA. Aang didn't kill Ozai just because his culture had thoroughly indoctrinated him into the idea that all life was sacred. Korra had no such reservations. The fact that she spared Kuvira and even maybe pitied her a little is much more profound than Aang's reservations, which come down to avoiding feeling guilty and blind adherence to dogma.

The season desperately needed a "Kuvira Alone" episode yeah.

Ultimately by biggest criticism of this whole series is that there weren't enough episodes in any season. But hey, if my biggest complaint is that I wanted more, they must be doing something right.

Yeah if only they didn't have an entire 22 minutes slashed after they had drafted out the pacing of the 13 episode season.
If only the same people who didn't slash their budget weren't loving cowards.

See you in the funny papers, liebchen!
I have to say I was pretty satisfied with this conclusion. While I'm not sure if Book 3 remains my favourite overall, this was definitely a worthy ending to the series. It's still bitterweet though; I've been watching since the very first episode of ATLA, when I was 12, and it's kind of sad to see the franchise (presumably) at its end, especially considering how Nick has hosed it over. At least it went out on a high note.

I can't be the only one who knew Hiroshi was going to die the moment they brought him out. When Asami said "I love you Dad" it was game over for him.

Also I'm amazed at how blatant the reveal of Korrasami being real was. It was about as close as they could gotten short of actually having them kiss onscreen. I'm actually impressed, it was pretty tactful

That was a pretty good closing. I mean, a lot of the dialogue was weird and slightly forced, but it was to be expected since the hatchet job that Nick pulled on the show left most if not all character arcs half-baked. Still, an irregular show came to a pretty good end. Season 3 still reigns supreme in my book, but the finale put this last season really neck-to-neck with it. Also, the Korra and Asami thing is basically as close as a (western) animated show aimed at a younger audience has ever gotten to show a same-sex relationship, so, well, there's that. Makes you wonder if the final scene would have remained the same if the show had actually aired on TV.

EDIT: Oh, also put me down as someone who's eagerly awaiting blurry!'s post-show wrapup analysis/essay. It'd be great to see what people thought of the series in comparison to ATLA, now that it's finally finished.

For myself, I liked it! It had an altogether different flavor than ATLA, and while I do kind of criticize it for a whole lot of stuff, especially in the first two seasons, I can't deny that, judging from my feedback these past threads, I've tended towards feeling overall positive towards the show.

The show started to lose me a bit in the second and third seasons, but this one was remarkably solid and if Nick had given them the budget to keep going I'm sure that the show would have continued its upward trend for at least another season or two. Oh well.

I'm sure there were be comics though and who knows? Netflix isn't adverse to picking up and continuing animated shows after cancelation, and they haven't greenlit a teen animated show yet.

But if this is it for Korra, though, I'm glad it ended on a high note.

To be honest, that's one of the reasons I kind of wish Korra had ended up alone. Korra fans are insane--apparently a Korrasami fan on Tumblr killed herself after bullying from Makorra shippers. There's going to be complete insanity and would be no matter the ship, which is one of the reasons I was glad the writers stopped focusing on romance and more on the actual story.

Apparently an inside source leaked that Bryke were doing something "risky" with the finale. Curious to see how Nick will deal with any reactions, good or bad, from the ending.

Yeah, it was a pretty great finale, though it was a bit lighter on character development than I'd hoped (Mako, Bolin, Lin, Tenzin, and any number of important characters ended the hour pretty much the same way they began it) (I just can't really see Varrick or Wu as important characters), and I definitely still like book 3 more than book 4 in general. The so-called solution for the chaos throughout the Earth Kingdom felt rather tacked-on for such a complicated sociopolitical issue, came about more or less without Korra's involvement, and I'm not actually sure how it's supposed to solve their specific problem.

Mako was actually pretty well done in that they could completely have had him do a heroic sacrifice there and it would have been plausible. I was actually a bit tense wondering if he was gonna bite it or not.

If I have one big disappointment it is that I wish Bataar Jr and Kuvira had at least one scene after she tried to kill him, if just to emphasize what she lost.
