I merely pointed out how the same rhetoric once used to disparage a small ethnic group is now used to disparage a small group based on their wealth. The overwhelming majority of the much maligned rich people are self-made and worked hard for it, providing services and products people want. By saying stuff like "kill all rich people" one just shows how much of an envious oval office one is, who very much dislikes hard work and lacks both dedication and ambition. The only people that should be really flogged are working in the financial industry because they produce nothing and contribute nothing. Their whole business model is parasitic. Edit: Actually I forgot politicians when I wrote the above but I am sure you get what I mean. Riso fucked around with this message at 22:18 on Dec 19, 2014 |

Still you yourself as well as several other posters were disputing the whole thing. I'll drop the point, having no intention to go into the small print of a German language research paper But I will maintain that The Rich (aka industrial and financial capital as well as old money) are definitely more of a net drain on any country. In fact, policies that they wrote more than likely caused parts of the lower contributions (by depressing wages in low-paying sectors)

In fact, policies that they wrote more than likely caused parts of the lower contributions (by depressing wages in low-paying sectors) Now you can argue that a rich person causes more externalised costs or however that's called - like, his factories contribute massively to pollution, and the taxes he pays do not outweigh the damage that causes - but that is, I am sure, very hard to quantify, and as such, statements like that should be made carefully, at least when the class enemy is listening. When we're alone, we can plot what gulags to send the bankers to in peace, but for now we must keep up the pretence.

Cingulate posted:You'll certainly have to clarify how you measure "drain" here, because simply on account of moving much more money, in capitalist societies, rich people will contribute more to e.g. welfare, and as they have more disposable income, they'll also tend to contribute a larger fraction of their income (poor people can't give to charities because they have no money in the first place). The rich (I mean actual rich not upper middle class) do pay proportionately less, as they get a large proportion of their income from sources other than labour, which are taxed less (eg. rent, inheritance) or put into different kinds of legal structures, to which the average or even above-average earner has no access. Also Switzerland still exists.

Measuring stick is the amount of revenue generated after the deduction of transfers, not the proportion of that amount to taxable income, because that is what the ZEW study we were talking about used. Also contrary to what you claim rent income isn't taxed less than income from labour.

Here we go with the moral high ground again. If you're not rich, you're obviously a victim, and therefore have moral outrage on your side. Any sense of nuance goes out the window in a discussion borne out of that mindset. Framing is everything. Just to clarify, it's absolutely fine with me (not that you need my permission) to be critical of the state of our society and where it's headed. And of course there are rich people that are cunts and whose wealth is based on the exploitation of the average Franz. But if you're making sweeping statements like all rich people should be put down (for what, exactly?), or make unsubstantiated claims about their net effect on our society as a whole, you accomplish nothing. It makes you sound like a juvenile idiot, and it makes your other arguments look bad, no matter how righteous your intent.
