Just a heads-up, Whispering Willows is a monkey's-paw of a game. Everything (the art style, the story, the soundwork) is brilliant and - from a first-time developer, no less - is absolutely stellar.

Then you have to move around. Elaina can run - when you're outside. Except there's nothing to do outside except run to the next building, and the choice to have metroidvania-style backtracking in a game that makes you walk, verrrrry slowly, is just killer. I want to like it, everything about it is extremely my jam, but the frustratingly slow pace just feels like completely artificial and aggravating padding. I'd rather the game be short (because you can actually traverse the drat world) than un-fun.

DO NOT BUY
They patched her walking speed indoors, so its probably fine now. (Haven't gone back to check though, I didn't find it that slow when I played it though, which was post run patch.)

Driftmoon is -80% (2,39€/$2.99/£1.99)

Based on the first 60 minutes the game mechanics are just your standard rpg but the general tone is very lighthearted and absolutely lovely.

Lots of really good shmups in this sale. Crimzon Clover is rather more traditional, wheras Astebreed is super pretty and creative in its camera usage, as well as forgiving in its use of regenerating shield mechanics.

I played it last night and it was still excruciating, so unless they pushed this patch in response to my post on the Something Awful Dot Com forums, it's still unfun and torturous.

You don't, it's pretty quick to learn, but it gets more and more difficult with each version to build a functioning long-term prison.

You can devote hours into it, but you don't have to. The combination of the steam workshop and the light memory footprint make it pretty accessible to anybody.

It's more on the Sim side. No crazy spin settings etc. If you want your shot to backspin you have to hit a flop and so on.
Play with a Controller or go home.
It can be really pretty looking.
Courses are very hit/miss because of the course editor, so you get tons of no-effort edited course.
Unless they've added it in the dress-up options are still crap :(

I'd say it probably is. Wrath of the Lamb was rather unbalanced at times... this is pretty much an entirely different game in terms of content and difficulty, mainly because things actually WORK now.

You don't get excessive slowdown, certain item combos work really well, and there's entirely new characters that let you play in Different ways (such as Lazarus, who can ressurect from the dead etc.)

It also has a 'hard mode' which basically makes things more difficult but you don't have to choose that.

e: Worth pointing out that you will probably die a lot to begin with. You start with rather barebones unlocks, but you'll soon quickly unlock some really cool stuff and it just sort of snowballs from there.

It's basically Theme Prison.

You have to design a prison using limited resources that will increase with the amount of prisoners you take in.

You have an incredible amount of freedom to design the prison however you want, so you can have a low-security prison with mostly non-violent inmates or a gulag style super max with mass murderers rubbing shoulders with cannibals etc.

Half the fun is seeing things go to the complete crap because you've made some bad decisions. It's got a bit of a learning curve, but it's an immensely satisfying game and hosed up at the same time.

It's fantastic, but like any episodic anything it's probably going to be a while between releases. If that doesn't bother you I'd definitely recommend it. I ended up spending several hours playing the first chapter, they've brought all the stuff I loved about Longest Journey and Dreamfall into a modern day engine, and without combat or QTEs.

Another good one, that. The gimmick works really well, although I'm kinda on the fence as to whether the near-monochrome graphics (each level has one primary colour, one highlight colour) really work.

I'd also recommend the Alltynex trilogy, but it's not on sale currently.

You can exit out of a session in any version of Rebirth and continue it at your leisure. Starting a new run will delete the one you have going, though.

I saw reviews where people poo poo on the game for that and a handful of references the characters make about God, but frankly I thought those criticisms were overblown because none of that really meant anything major in the game and none of it is particularly forced down your throat (it's been nearly a year since I played and if it did play more of a role, I've basically forgotten about it).

It's a neat game because it was very clearly a personal product for the husband-and-wife dev team - for crying out loud, the main heroine you meat halfway into the game is basically meant to be the wife dev - that wears all of its influences on its sleeve, but it doesn't overstay its welcome and the overall mood is funny and agreeable. It was a nice diversion that I beat after two evenings of play, and it's well worth the current price.

I got it in the auction and played through on Easy so far. It's really cute and polished and the enemies are neat, but I accomplished the entire campaign without any backtracking at all, even though the game seems to be encouraging playing through areas multiple times with different classes. Not sure how it'll be on Normal difficulty, but that's my experience so far.

I'm happy I got it, though.

It's not super long, but there is plenty of repeatability because of the different classes. You can easily get 10+ hours of it. The lack of variety is a valid complaint, since once you figure out one or two classes it's pretty easy to break the game with the others. But I think it's easily with the price.

I am really enjoying it. Currently has 6 classes and around 10 areas. If you look through my posts I asked the dev a few questions. It looks like a fair amount of content is coming shortly after the mobile version hits.

Edit: Found it.

"Yeah, we're planning on doing an infinite dungeon mode and/or a "savage" difficulty (serious business for roguelike veterans) at the same time that the mobile release comes out. (Early-ish next year)

The last few weeks have been spent doing doing full controller support, which should be out this weekend, as soon as that's out we'll be working on the infinite dungeon and mobile releases. If you switch to the Beta branch you can play with full controller support and test out the little holiday event.

Caves of Qud (our older roguelike) also got ok'd by Valve for Steam, so we've also been working on a Unity-based revision of it, and early testers (from the roguelike thread) are already playing."

My only fear is how the pixel artwork will look if it put it up on the TV for some couch co-cop. But yeah, sucker was fun even with just single player and it looks like the devs are really supporting the hell out of it. I only wish the workshop could be extend to user created classes but even just having user created levels is a great feature along with a free expansion pack. Best score of the sale!
