There's a thin but significant line between putting dissenters in "re-education camps" and rounding up non-earthbenders to put in those same camps. It's sort of like how they had Equalists bomb rescue ships in Book 1, that moment where they make the villains too unsympathetic.

to be fair, they went with the much more pg-rated version of just plain trying to kick them out, didn't they?

I thought swamp/vine bending was water-bending because you're bending the water in the vines? Or am I way off.

It's water bending yeah but no one throws swampbending into "specializations of water bending". Same with sand benders for some reason even though Toph does it in the last episode she's in. I think.

Seeing the co-creator of a franchise that I love in no small part because of its representation of Eastern culture through a Western fantasy lens lay the smackdown on heteronormativity fills me with absolute satisfaction and joy, and I love seeing people not getting that they've been told off by a guy whose work has been a part of their life for a literal decade.

Avatar is cool and good. And I'm real happy that a show that's been a paragon of ethnic and gender equality in children's media can now be admired for the significant step it's taken in the portrayal LGBT relationships.

If we're really being honest, Nazis make for the best villain because they're so clearly evil and yet still human. America longs for the day when its primary foe was an out-and-out douche like Hitler.

The military of Nationalist China also had the whole Nazi aesthetic going on, right down to the stahlhelms. Up until war broke out between Japan and China, there was actually a lot of cooperation between Germany and the ROC. So the aesthetics of Kuvira's army are still generally in keeping with the whole KMT/Northern Expedition thing they have going on.

one thing they could have done with korra, since all the nations were mixing together, was have hybrid bending styles and lavabending could have been from fire and earth parents. which bolin was anyway i think. or lavabending could have been a dual technique where they worked together. either would have been better than just another specialty

ETA: Apparently, both lightning and lightning redirection from said boss. In the commentaries for the Revelation.

I'm torn between believing that Varrick's early life was incredibly eventful, and that everything we've heard about the seal hunter, farm, circus, and Mrs. Beaks was total bullshit to support his story of the moment. Possibly both at once.

This doesn't mean I wouldn't love to see the comic, as narrated by him.

I really enjoyed Korra, every season and every episode, even if it was a bit ham-handedly written at times. Actually the first four episodes of season 2 are kinda boring, but there's some good stuff in there still.

People kept saying that more Avatar stuff wasn't gonna happen because Nick has the rights and they hate it or whatever.... Would Nick lose the rights after a certain time period if they didn't utilize it? I know that happens with movies which is why we keep getting reboots like Amazing Spider-Man or X-men First Class. It has to be the same, right?

A situation where a company would lose the rights to characters they own exists only long after we're all dead. Probably not even then if Disney has its way.

The Spider-Man or X-Men stuff is because Marvel owns the characters, they licensed the film rights to other studios, which is not the same thing.
