So, um, yeah I've been listening to a WHOLE loving LOT of Citadel lately, and...

It's short, there are really only 3 songs, but :drat: those songs are good. Especially Blackholes, which is probably the best song I've heard this year period.

The acoustic bits on that album are the best parts, even if they're short.

Looking back on the year I think Black Label Society's Catacombs of the Black Vatican was one of my favorite albums. I don't see groove metal posted much in this thread.

Slipknot a full eight ranks above literally any Exodus album is a loving ridiculous joke. And Machine Head, the band nobody has cared about since high school, beat out The Satanist?

Live shows, I'd say Mgla at MDF, Dead Congregation at the Metro Gallery, or Lord Mantis at the Sidebar.

I listened to this band for the first time today. I like Troy Sanders and Greg Puciato... but together they have managed to produce something truly lovely.

Actually, there are are people in this very thread who think they're relevant and good. There's probably a significant overlap with the crowd who think Devin Townsend is a genius

I love Devin, but can't stand Machine Head.

In other news, here's a Youtube comment.

quote:

The Mustaine vs. Metallica "feud" has always sort of reminded me of christian antisemitism. Megadeath isn't exactly an unknown band, and he's had full creative control, so wtf difference does it make? Plus Metallica went on to basically abandon Metal in favor of more radio friendly hard rock fodder. Same goes for christianity. Here they've been calling Jews "christ killers" for 2000 years, but there would BE NO religionS known as christianity (42,000+ sects and counting!) were it not for the MYTHICAL crucifixion of their Jewish scapegoat! Christians should be thanking Jews for sacrificing their god just as Mustaine should be thanking Lars & James for sacrificing him. Neither would even EXIST were it not for said turn of events.

What the gently caress.

I like Machine Head but this new album is rear end and doesn't belong anywhere near a top anything list. The last album wasn't much better, considering it completely fell apart about two or three songs in. The Blackening was great, though.

This Christmas was a very classic heavy metal Christmas.

A TURGID FATSO

Here's to ya, JACKASS
This was not for Christmas, but earlier this month I treated myself to a ton of new records for a "job well done" this holiday season with stuff from...

Maveth - "Coils of the Black Earth"
Maveth/Embrace Of Thorns - "A Plague Through the Heavens" split
Degial - "Death and Darkness Buries All" 7"
Tribulation - "The Formulas Of Death"
Witchrist - "Beheaded Ouroboros"
Diocletian - "Doom Cult"
Occultation - "Three And Seven"
Thantifaxath - "Sacred White Noise"
Swallowed - "Lunarterial"
Phobocosm - "Deprived"
Excoriate - "On Pestilent Winds..."
Cult Of Fire - "Triumvirat", "मृत्यु का तापसी अनुध्यान", and "Čtvrtá Symfonie Ohně"
Artificial Brain - "Labyrinth Constellation"
Black Anvil - "Hail Death"

I'm pretty satisfied with my choices.

Speaking of Degial, they are awesome grimey Swedeath that should not be overlooked.

Body Count is the exception to the rule that rap-metal always sucks, because Ice T is an actually talented rapper with a genuine appreciation for both styles of music.
