We've gotta also talk about Alf Svensson because this album is so bad it hurts:

I actually like his Oxiplegatz stuff :shobon: It's low-budget but super creative, and his songwriting skill is still fantastic.

Anyways, more sci-fi/space-themed metal :woop:

Yes.
As one of the thread's resident power metal dweebs, I feel it my obligation to flower things up a bit and reiterate that Gamma Ray's Somewhere Out In Space is one of the best space metal albums ever, and I will throw pine cones at anyone who would dispute that.

I've been thinking about posting The Universal Migrator since I saw space metal being mentioned, haha. That is the ultimate dorky space metal album, if you can call it metal really.

Yes.
Yeah, I can't argue with this either.

Ever since I discovered them (in this thread even - thanks for that whoever posted them), Keldian have been a constant in my phone's music library and a regular in my Foobar as well, and have pretty much become one of my current favourite bands. It's still completely impossible for me to tell which of their albums I like the best because they're all so consistently awesome.

These guys have such incredible songwriting ability, their music is so easily accessible and poppy as hell but it just does not get old at all.

Aureole's Alunar was some very interesting Darkspace/Alrakis worshipping synthy dark black metal. The album as a whole is a pretty cool experience to listen to, though it doesn't quite grab you with the production like some bands do, I like it all the way through more than tone-basking.

http://bandcamp.fallenempirerecords.com/album/alunar

I think the comparisons of Vektor to Voivod are too strong - there's a shared aesthetic and clearly some inspiration, but Vektor have a much sharper, tighter, more angular sound which relies on quick turns and contrasts, while even Voivod's prog stuff really utilized the space in sound and time to build a sound - they still had part of their early metalpunk sound when the space themes and more complex guitar work came into play. Obliveon is another element of the influence, but Vektor doesn't have the early-Meshuggah groove element that Obliveon picked up on Cybervoid, but they do have the themes developed more like an extension/evolution of later Obliveon while upping the thrashiness of what that band did on their first two.

Now, there's also "Vektor worship" which is most certainly a shameless ripoff/homage!
