to be fair the Growlanser character designer is a dude who just wanted to draw porn but it seems his character designers work well in games featuring harems

But he draws pretty 'badass' old dudes

I call this game "which half-assed PC port is this?":

(Actually that doesn't seem too bad)

Unrelatedly FFXIII fried my laptop. Apparently running at 90 degrees Celsius ain't so good for its health. Who knew? Then again I suppose a 2009 model with no upgrades had no business running it in the first place.

it is good

it has not aged incredibly well, but having just played through the whole thing in november/december i can say that it is still a good fun game, and my only piece of advice is that once you beat the final boss do not stop and attempt to save

The sequel's better but PE1 is pretty decent for what it is. I can't recommend sticking around for the NG+ bonus dungeon, though.

Okay, thank you. Can you be a bit more specific, like is there an area where I can save and shouldn't or does the game tell me to save and I shouldn't?

after you beat the final boss you start to run, you will reach a save point and because he is not on screen go 'oh this is the last call i guess' but going to save is death, because he moves while all the text boxes are up and kills you. this thwarted 13 year old me from beating it and that protest stood for the last 15 years. its a DICK MOVE :colbert:

that said enjoy the game. it starts to wear out its welcome later on, you'll know when you hit the wall, but its very close to the end so i'd encourage you to just power through it because its worth it. also, super best friends are playing through it right now on youtube so you can watch them while you play it or to get tips on playing it (or to see the game get played)

Two things to remember during the final sequence, no spoilers:

1. Don't use the phone
2. Always go left

I've only played PE for a few minutes to make sure the game worked, but I've hear another person say the Chrysler Building made them vow to never buy another Square game again. Out of curiosity, what's so bad about it?

The Building is a post-game dungeon. (Or actually NG+ dungeon). It is 100 floors long and made up almost entirely of recycled materials though it does contain some new content, including a super-boss you have to fight to get the (canonical) good end of the game. It is really, really, really loving long and not very engaging if you're not interested in breaking the combat over your knee.

You don't ever have to touch it if you don't want to.

Uh-uh no way. PE2 is Resident Evil: The RPG. Because what more do you want out of Resident Evil than random encounters and leveling up?

With that said Parasite Eve gives you a lot of options for customizing equipment so if you really like the subsystems you'll breeze through it.

I legit think all the Parasite Eve games are worth playing (even 3rd Birthday). They're all different, all janky in their own unique ways, but there's no other games like them and even rarer that they're modern-setting RPGs.

The rate of fire stat on guns is a trap. Anything over x3 actually does less damage while wasting ammo and time. x3 itself isn't much better than x2. Also, machine guns are better than everything else because your atb charges faster and you spend less time firing.

Rifles can be useful on a first playthrough if you're having trouble dodging attacks, due to their huge range. Unfortunately they're quite slow.

PE2 has neither of those, so I don't know what you're on about. What it does have is some of the best feeling guns on the system and it isn't afraid to let you use them.

auto potion is pretty good on a first playthrough because there's a ton of medicine everywhere, but if you aren't careful you will empty out your entire inventory on one or two bad encounters, so try to avoid it if you can imho

It's a lot of circle strafing huge maps with pretty bland weapons. I hear there's some good ones buried in the unlocks but I'm not interested enough to keep going.

There's a part of me that thinks "Hm, yeah, if I value my time, patience, and opinion of this game I should totally avoid stuff like that". But then there's that part of me that thinks "You don't scare me, I've played Pier Solar all the way to the end!

One helpful tip about Parasite Eve, the explosive and freeze gun attributes are pretty bad, there's enemies resistant to both. I can't remember if anything is strong against Acid, so that might be the best one of those.

Its not hard if you read some faqs about the gun mechanics and then craft a perfect gun, but that ending isn't that interesting to be worth all the effort. I wouldn't recommend it unless you fell in love with this game.

Acid's just a weak DoT but there's a couple minibosses that take a fair bit of damage from it.

The maps are mazes randomly generated from a very limited tileset and have multiple rooms you want to reach in order to progress. They're also each about as big as the too big for its own good sewer level at the end of disk 1.

the sleep attribute is really good on a gun cause a lot of enemies can get slept and it doesn't reduce damage if they're immune
