huhu posted:To emphasize the feeling of falling over that was already present with the truck parked on an angle. That's a pretty bad reason to do a Dutch angle, especially since you have vertical elements that make it pretty clear you angled it on purpose, which in turn makes me assume that the truck was straight before you crooked it which may not be the case. If that was a good justification for the angle why not make it horizontal or even upside down?

Why exactly is that a bad reason to do a dutch angle? It certainly achieves its purpose of making the truck feel like it's about to tip over. Who cares if it's obvious he tilted the camera on purpose? While I agree that keeping the verticals straight up-and-down would have better shown the actual tilt of the truck, "actual tilt" might not have given a falling over impression to a viewer (which is what huhu wanted). Is this thread seriously so in love with straight lines and perfect geometry that as soon as someone does the opposite it throws a fit?

When I think 'landscape' I also think horizon. I'd typically expect it to be straight, unless there is some compelling reason for it not to be.

That's true, but I would argue that huhu did have a compelling reason. He needed to tilt the camera in order to convey something specific to a viewer.
